*The Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red is a divine blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from a heralded site on the cooler, far southeast hillsides of Napa Valley. With beautifully expressive aromatics of mulberry, damson, black tea, and dark chocolate, leading to a palate of stunning richness, gorgeous tannins, and the purest of mineral finishes, this is one Napa’s most distinctive and celebrated wines!

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Jeb Dunnuck 100

Another perfect wine from Bevan is the 2015 Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red Wine, a Cheval Blanc-like blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot brought up all in French oak. This huge, full-bodied, opulent 2015 carries itself like a ballerina – elegant, weightless and even graceful, with remarkable purity of fruit. Currants, blueberries, liquid violets, Asian spices and a distinct minerality all emerge from the glass and it has both incredible complexity and richness. Bravo! [Jeb Dunnuck, 29/12/2017]

Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038

2023 Bevan Cellars, EE Red, Oakville 1x75cl

JD99RP97TWP98VM97
*Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot *Vintage production: 677 cases *The EE Red Wine has always been a Bevan icon, a vivid expression of Russell’s passion for the... interplay between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. From 2011-2019 it was from the Tench Vineyard in Oakville, and in 2023 found a new, dynamic and even more exciting identity: the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. Russell had long been nurturing two parcels of vines he knew had the potential to combine into something even more special, thriving on this sunny hillside site, attaining an extra dimension from the cooler micro-climate. 2023 is one of Napa’s all-time great vintages, and the perfect moment to debut this new generation of EE.

2019 Bevan Cellars, Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast 1x75cl

*Blend: 100% Chardonnay *Vintage production: 229 cases *Russell Bevan is a Titan among Napa winemakers, and his incredible single vineyard reds from 'Grand Cru' sites including the Tench,... Beckstoffer Dr. Crane and Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyards are among the Valley's greatest. For those in the know it gets even more exciting with his ultra-rare Sonoma bottlings. These wines show the remarkable breadth of Russell's talent, and why the far western reaches of Sonoma are home to some of the most exciting Chardonnays in the World. The Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2019 comes from two vineyards heavily influenced by the cooling Pacific breezes and the vital band of ‘Goldridge Series’ soils that sets the very best sites apart. It’s a wine of drive and energy, with the classic citrus vibes of this AVA.

2016 Dana Estates, ONDA Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD95JS96
*Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot *Vintage production: 1,275 cases ONDA is a wine made in the Bordeaux tradition, blending both varietals and vineyards together to create a... synergy from our estate sites. The team at DANA has been making this wine since 2005, experimenting by blending fruit from Helms, Hershey, Lotus and the fourth estate vineyard, Crystal Springs. A bit softer than the single vineyard wines, ONDA is characterized by wonderful fruit purity, elegance and precision. It drinks beautifully upon release but will age gracefully for 10-15 years with appropriate storage. The 2016 vintage allowed head winemaker, Chris Cooney to reflect upon crafting the DANA wines and the full tenure of the winery. In their combined efforts, Philippe Melka and Chris further concentrated on vineyard expression and refined farming practices. The anticipation of the vintage allowed for proper planning and execution of an early harvest of phenomenal quality. Dana's philosophy of minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery has resulted in a slow progression to dry farming. This forces the vines to look deeper for water, but also for nutrients and minerals. The results are balanced vines that produce small intensely flavoured berries with thick darkly coloured skins. The 2016 season started with the soil full of water giving the vines a respite from 3 years of drought. The season started with a warm April and May which promoted rapid shoot growth with no water limitations. This established healthy canopies early in the season. A little extra work was done to keep dappled light in the fruit zone open which is critical for tannin development. Crystal Springs forms the core of the 2016 ONDA blend (68% Crystal Springs Vineyard, 18% Hershey Vineyard, 11% Lotus Vineyard, 3% Helms Vineyard). Harvest at Crystal started on September 15th with the rockier soils on the south side of the vineyard. The team finished with 8 days later with the slightly cooler, heavier soils. About a week later the Merlot at Hershey was ready. A few days after, at the end of September they picked the north corner of Lotus Cabernet Sauvignon and the Petit Verdot. The following day on October 1st we picked a portion of Helms. The last picks of Hershey Cabernet Sauvignon occurred on October 12th. The Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented in equal portions of oak and concrete tanks. The Merlot was fermented in stainless steel and the Petite Verdot in 225L French oak barrels. The wines were pressed directly to barrels, and malolactic was native.

2017 Bevan Cellars, Tench Vineyard EE Red Wine, Oakville 12x75cl

JD98
*Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc *Vintage production: 1,451 cases *The Tench Vineyard surrounds the winery in eastern Oakville at a sweet spot where the valley floor and foothills... of the Vaca Mountains collide to form some of the most complex, prized soils in Napa. Sharing a fence line with Screaming Eagle, and counting the like of Dalla Valle Vineyards and BOND’s St. Eden Vineyard as neighbours, Tench has produced an unstoppable string of high scoring wines at the hands of Russell.   For the Tench Vineyard EE Red Wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend comes from a block which brings more blue and black fruits. The addition of Cabernet Franc adds intensity and structure, and the concentration achieved is phenomenal.

2017 Blankiet Estate, Paradise Hills Vineyard Rive Droite, Napa Valley 1x75cl

JD96
*Blend: 96% Merlot,4% Cabernet Franc *Vintage production: 304 cases *Blankiet Estate is nestled above Yountville on the western foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The Paradise Hills... Vineyard is carved on steep hillsides just above the famed Dominus Estate Napanook parcel that was originally planted in 1838 by Yountville’s founder, George C. Yount. With an ideal eastern exposure, the land is bathed with morning sun and benefits from natural shade in the hot afternoons, and cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay flow constantly across the land. It's located on three volcanic knolls where soil profiles vary from deeply fractured rocks and volcanic ash, to thick clay deposits, meaning each parcel is distinguished by a unique subsoil and microclimate. At just 6.5 hectares in size it's a remarkably small site, yet the incredible complexity of the terroir allows for three distinct wines, each of a singular style. This is an Estate at the top of its game. Combined with the very talented winemaker Graeme MacDonald and owner Claude Blankiet's attention to detail, is truly worthy of an exploration.
