2015 Realm Cellars, Moonracer Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD97
Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Vintage production: c.350 cases Realm's Moonracer Estate sits on Wappo Hill near the town of Yountville. At 170 metres... above sea level, it's the highest elevation point on the valley floor. Wappo Hill was named after the Native American tribe that was prevalent in the area long before California was a state. The Wappos believed in Animism, a spiritual idea that all the elements of the natural environment have a soul. The Moonracer name and label are an oblique reference to the earliest inhabitants of the place Realm now calls home. The Cabernet Sauvignon-based Moonracer is composed of the finest lots from the Estate vineyard. Winemaker Benoit Touquette has much to choose from, as the site, with its multiple blocks, elevations, facings and diverse soils, has character in spades. Moonracer bears the unmistakable mark of this stimulating vineyard as well as the Stags Leap District. The wine is strong and powerful yet elegant, with refined tannins and plenty of depth. It beautifully combines characteristics typical of northern and southern Napa Valley. For the label, Barcelona-based artist Sergio Albiac inserts data taken from weather stations at the Moonracer vineyard, including temperature, wind, and solar radiation, into an algorithm that produces abstract images based on the data. Each vintage of Moonracer is represented by data from that particular year, and each label is unique.

2015 Scherrer, Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley 1x75cl

Blend: 100% Chardonnay Production: 796 cases While grown primarily in the sandy Goldridge soil, which tends to produce Pinot Noir with flavours of red fruits and orange peel, this wine also... illustrates some of the deep, brooding black cherry character generally found in the region’s clay soils. It was bottled without fining or filtration, and will age gracefully for many years. Four Corners Wine: "Pure Russian River Valley - lovely dark, earthy, black-fruit aromatics, with a touch of scorched earth, bags of depth, framed by a touch of white pepper and anise. The palate has a great intensity, so juicy and crisp, very classic RRV-style, lots of crisp red berries - especially wild strawberry. Simply delicious, and plenty to come."

2015 Soliste, L’Age D’Or Chardonnay, Russian River Valley 1x75cl

Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 417 cases L’Age D’Or comes from a vineyard just north of Sebastopol adjacent to the Laguna de Santa Rosa, the largest tributary of the Russian River.... Originally planted in 1971, these are among the oldest Chardonnay vines in the Russian River Valley. The vineyard is immaculately and sustainably managed. Having white Burgundies as benchmarks, especially the wines of Raveneau, Jobard and Coche-Dury, Don and Claude were never to anxious to even attempt to craft Chardonnay in the new world as they had always felt that the wines were sometimes over the top with buttery pop corn mouth feel, way too much oak, high alcohol and clunky. Their success with Sauvignon Blanc, and especially with St. Andelain, convinced them to begin a three year commitment with a fabulous, well-established vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Their willingness to experiment with different vinification as well as aging for 16 months in 600L thick stave barrels (44% new) results in a Chardonnay of great elegance, length and verve; very Meursault-like.

2015 Soliste, Solitaire Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 12x75cl

Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage Production: 67 cases In Burgundy, a winemaker may reserve a special barrel for friends and family. They call this barrel Soliste. The Solitaire Pinot Noir is... co-founders Don Plumley and Claude Koeberle's ode to this concept, with a single-barrel given an extended ageing of 20 months to produce one of Sonoma’s most riveting wines. The fruit for Solitaire is sourced from the Guidici Vineyard, hidden among the redwoods near Occidental in the western reaches of Sonoma. It’s the pinnacle of Soliste’s unique ‘Monoclone’ programme: a single clone from a single vineyard, aged in a single cooperage to craft extraordinary wine that exemplifies their identity and sense of place. Four Corners Wine: “The most deliciously classic Pinot aromatics soar from the glass, with rich undertones of mushroom, dried lavender, and crushed rosemary leading bright sparks of preserved cherries and a hint of white balsamic. With air, even more layers emerge with plums, and an almost cocoa/earthy note adding further depth. On the palate, the concentrated core opens to reveal crystal clean notes of crunchy red berries, a light dusting of earthy spices, building to a velvety core of gorgeous tannin and a crisp finish. It builds and builds with time in the glass, and will be an utter joy to open anytime over the coming 10+ years. What a wine!” (Nov. 2021)

2015 Realm Cellars, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville 1x75cl

JD100
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 325 cases There are few names as evocative as Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. It is considered by many as the ultimate expression of Napa Valley,... and one of the very best vineyards in the world. This site has produced some of the most revered wines in Napa’s history at the hands of the few elite winemakers granted access to these most precious of vines. The secret to the Beckstoffer To Kalon magic lies in its location in western Oakville on an ancient alluvial fan. It was described by Robert Parker as “A true Napa Valley first growth”, yet with 33 hectares under vine it’s significantly smaller than any of the five illustrious First Growths (Château Haut-Brion is the smallest with 55ha under vine). It has more in common with the regal Grand Crus of Burgundy, with less than 20 winemakers granted access. This allows for a beautiful spectrum of vineyard expression – each encapsulating the soul of the terroir while exuding the signature style of each winery. The site’s history can be traced back to 1868, when Hamilton Crabb planted the first vines. Legendary grower Andy Beckstoffer purchased his 89 acres in 1993, beginning an intensive period of renovation, modernisation and replanting. In 2007 the property was placed under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development. The thin topsoil of clay loam sits on riverbed gravels and volcanic rocks – a combination that results in classic minerality and a graphite streak found in the best Cabernets. The vineyard is at the perfect sweet-spot around halfway up the Valley, where it receives the ideal sunshine for ripening the fruit, giving the wines an unmistakable depth and density of dark fruit aromatics and flavours. It is also tempered by the cooling winds from the San Pablo Bay and a natural circulation from cool air cascading down the Mayacamas Mountains. This is key to the wine’s unmistakable energy and elegance.
