Four Corners Wine "Beautifully refined on the nose with nice density, good richness, a touch of sweet new oak, a dusting of fresh vanilla and bitter cocoa, really good definition of fruit, framed by an energetic hint of orange pith. On the palate it's so good up front, loads of vintage expression with energy and power, a lovely texture of crunchy tannins, an almost salty minerality, and a great finish. A big step up on the 2019!" (Oct. 2023)

Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage production: 300 cases MAXEM is all about precision, ultra-focused winemaking, and celebrating the finest terroir of the Sonoma Coast at the hands of winemaker Sam... Kaplan. The wines are elegant, pure, remarkably balanced wines loaded with tension and energy, that have knocked us off our seats every time we've tasted them. Silver Eagle Vineyard rests atop Stoetz Ridge, the land mass that divides the remote Sonoma Coast from the Russian River Valley. This vineyard experiences both the cooling ocean breezes of the nearby Pacific, as well as the warmth of the interior valley. The Pinot Noir made from this unique confluence of climates is extraordinary: a rare balance of explosive wild berry, mouth-watering acidity, and rich, polished tannins. Four Corners Wine: "Fantastic from the outset - so refined on the nose, super concentrated with a core full of gorgeous top notes of grilled herbs and dried meadow flowers, a great streak of savoury earthiness, almost a touch of white truffle. Complex and delicious. The palate is stunning, showing real depth, intensity, and tension. The structure and texture are great, filled with darker berries and great acidity. Lovely purity and great a great profile and sense of balance. Powerful, yet a Pinot of total grace. Gorgeous." (Sept. 2023)

2021 MAXEM, U.V. Lucky Well Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast 12x75cl

Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 130 cases MAXEM is all about precision, ultra-focused winemaking, and celebrating the finest terroir of the Sonoma Coast at the hands of winemaker Sam... Kaplan. The wines are elegant, pure, remarkably balanced wines loaded with tension and energy, that have knocked us off our seats every time we've tasted them. They're as close in class to the Grand Crus of Burgundy we've ever experienced in California, while maintaining their unmistakable Sonoma DNA. 2021 is MAXEM's first ever vintage from the legendary U.V. Lucky Well Vineyard . This site sits atop a knoll on the western edge of the Sebastopol hills outside of the towns of Graton and Sebastopol. The area is home to some of the most highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in the Russian River Valley due in large part to the perfect confluence of soil, climate, and elevation. The vineyard is in an area often referred to as the “banana belt” of the Russian River Valley because, though on the very coolest, foggiest, and western edge of the appellation, it sits on a knoll that rises above the fog line. This feature exposes the fruit to more gentle sunlight, which allows very slow and even ripening across the entire growing season. Four Corners Wine: "This debut release of U.V. Lucky Well Chardonnay is sublime. There's a beautiful note of reduction on the nose bringing notes a struck flint, leading to aromas of dried tarragon, an insane level of minerality, and a sense of ultra-purity. So impressive. The palate is just amazing, with so much concentration and energy, and phenomenal energy. It's all about texture, minerality, with laser-focused fruit. Simply brilliant - epic." (Sept. 2023)

2019 Peake Ranch, Bellis Noir, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD96
Blend: 75% Syrah, 16% Grenache, 9% Pinot Noir Vintage Production: 557 cases If there's one wine that sums up why California is such a hotbed of innovation and excitement, it's the Peake Ranch Bellis... Noir 2019. It's a blend like no-other: with a dominance of Syrah and addition of Grenache it is a classic Central Coast recipe, but what makes it unique and utterly divine is a splash of Pinot Noir, all from the Estate Vineyards! Peake Ranch's wines are super hot-tickets, and the two Estate Vineyards in Sta. Rita Hills are highly prized by the region's top winemakers. The Peake Ranch Vineyard surrounds the winery in the far southeast of the AVA, counting Sine Qua Non's Eleven Confessions Vineyard as a neighbour. This historic site rises up from the valley floor into Santa Rosa Hills, a is home to some of the best Pinot Noir on the West Coast. John Sebastiano Vineyard has the perfect mix of cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean and Californian sunshine for producing amazing Syrah and Grenache. With the likes of Jim Binns (Andremily), Paul Lato (Paul Lato Wines), and Nik Krankl (Finger's Crossed) lining up for some fruit, it deserves it's 'Grand Cru' status. The mix of intense, aromatic Syrah with energetic, textured Grenache and Pinot may sound outrageous, but if the recipe works why deny it?!

2021 Dragonette, Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD94JS96RP94VM96
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage production: 350 cases Historic Sanford & Benedict is the original Pinot Noir vineyard (est. 1971) in the Santa Ynez Valley (Sta. Rita Hills was not established until... 2001), and it has been the inspiration for winemakers for ever since. Originally planted to a selection of apparently secret “heritage” clones (subsequently expanded and replanted over the years), this magical site simply buzzes with cosmic energy. Dragonette purchases fruit here from two distinct blocks of older vines (1999) and oldest vines (1972), buying by the acre so they may employ specialized organic farming practices. These stately vines stand tall on their enormous trunks, while still producing a solid crop of beautifully concentrated grapes. The resulting wines display sappy red and black cherry fruits with old-vine style and grace.

2021 Andremily, No. 10 Syrah, California 12x75cl

JD97-100RP97+WI96-98
Blend: 93% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 2% Viognier Vintage production: 900 cases The Andremily Syrah No. 10 2021 is a particularly special and poignant vintage for Jim Binns as it’s the 10th vintage of... Andremily, which began with the No. 1 Syrah 2012. It’s a vintage worthy of such a celebration, boasting a beautifully warm (but never hot) season and dry conditions, resulting in gorgeous small bunches which had time to mature slowly on the vines to add even more complexity. It is a masterpiece that “is going to flirt with perfection at maturity” in the eyes of Jeb Dununck (97-100pts). Jim’s own description is worth the admission alone: “This sultry temptress is sure to please with its soaring aromatics and rich full texture. It must be tasted to be believed.” It’s built around of core of Syrah from a line-up of top sites throughout the Central Coast, including White Hawk (Cat Canyon), Larner (Ballard Canyon), Harrison-Clarke (Ballard Canyon), Kimsey, and Alta Mesa (Santa Barbara County), and Slide Hill - Andremily’s first Estate Vineyard, in Edna Valley.

2019 Mauritson Wines, Rockpile Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Rockpile 12x75cl

RP95
Blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot Vintage production: 740 Straddling the ridge between the two arms of Lake Sonoma is the Rockpile AVA. One of the newest... appellations in California, Rockpile's location and history can be described in one word: dramatic! S.P. Hallengren, great-great-great grandfather of Founder & Owner Clay Mauritson, first planted vines on the Rockpile valley floor in 1884, shipping every ounce of his wine back to Sweden. The Family's Rockpile homestead and ranch grew to 1,600 hectares by the early 1960s, when all but 280 ridgetop hectares were taken by the Army Corps of Engineers in order to develop Lake Sonoma. The vineyards shown in many of the historic family photos are now under water. It was not until the early 1990s that the first acres of modern-era vines were planted and thrived, once it was discovered that Rockpile held great potential for ultra-premium mountain fruit. What makes Rockpile so unique? The AVA is located at the Northwest edge of Dry Creek Valley where the two regions actually overlap. All the vineyards within the Rockpile AVA range from between 240-600m in elevation. Although Rockpile is located just 13 miles from the coast, Lake Sonoma provides an inversion layer that prevents the heavier fog that typically blankets other Northern California appellations, allowing for longer, more consistent sun exposure. Moisture and daytime temperatures are regulated by howling coastal breezes and, in many cases, the steep slopes and rocky terrain require non-motorised vine management. Running through Mauritson's Rockpile Ridge Vineyards is the Healdsburg–Rogers Creek Fault, a dominant earthquake fault in Northern California, and you can see why the story of Rockpile is pure geo-political drama. Four Corners Wine: "Great Cabernet expression, yet quite unlike anything we've tried before. The nose has a great profile of bramble fruit with a really pure streak of cassis, underscored by a nice mellow minerality and the faintest of floral notes. It's all framed by layers of fresh tobacco and cedar. The palate is fascinating, with the most incredible tannins, great energy, a rich and velvety structure with bags of super intense blackcurrant and blackberry. The finish has great length, completing an utterly refined Cabernet bursting with personality. Fantastic now, with a good 15 years ageing potential." (Dec. 2022)
