2021 Carter, Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon The O.G., Oakville 6x75cl

JD99
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: n/a With low yields and intense concentration, 2021 turns out to be very good year for the ‘O.G.’ block of Beckstoffer To Kalon. This is a... dense and ethereal Napa Cabernet Sauvignon revealing gorgeous notes of black and blue berry, complex floral and earth undertones matched with an inky deep purple color. Sweet firm tannins integrate with a plush, persistent and prodigious palate that has both weight and richness. As with prior tannic vintages of this wine, the structure and power of the clone 337 from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard lends itself well to an extended decant or several years of bottle age to really spread its wings. This wine should hit its prime in 5 to 10 years and continue to age and become more complex for decades.

2019 LEVY & McCLELLAN, AMPERSAND Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

Blend: c.80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc Production: c.225 cases Crafted by Bob with his wife Martha McClellan (winemaker at SLOAN ESTATE) at their family... Estate, LEVY & McCLELLAN is one of Napa's A-list 'closed-door' wineries, producing ultra-rare wines (just 375 cases annually) exclusively available and winery-direct from Four Corners Wine in the UK. The duo produces two stunning cuvées from their Estate vineyard located high above Calistoga, both based around a core of Cabernet Sauvignon. The AMPERSAND contains a splash more Merlot in the blend, and tends to be the more expressive early on. They have an almost almost obsessive focus in the vineyard and winery, with each small lot managed individually, ensuring gentle extraction and barrel fermentation for extremely high-quality, refined tannins. They are one of the only wineries to ferment solely in 225L French oak barrels, using a labour-intensive method of placing each one on rollers to rotate it and gently mix the grapes with the fermenting juice. This process is customised for each individual lot and means it takes 3 to 4 barrels during fermentation to fill just one barrel for the aging of the wine.

2019 Dalla Valle, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JS98RP98+VM97WI98
Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc Vintage production: c.1,000 cases Eastern Oakville is one of Napa Valley's most star-studded neighbourhoods. Overlooking them all from the highest... point s one of the Estates that elevated Napa to the top of the global scene in the 1990s, Dalla Valle Vineyards. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the wine that it all began with back in 1986, when founders Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle introduced their hillside Estate Vineyard to the world with this debut vintage. It's the small addition of Cabernet Franc - which thrives in the iron rich volcanic soils, that sets this wine apart. While the 2018 vintage may have been a tough act to follow, the 2019s standout as another classic, idyllic Napa Valley vintage to remember. A milestone was reached at Dalla Valle in 2019 as they embraced the world of Biodynamic farming. Their deep love and connection to this land inspired them to begin this journey, and they have not looked back since. The elements of energy and vibrancy show in the 2019 vintage. A cool winter and mild rainy spring replenished the vines and provided them with the energy to sustain the heat of summer and perfectly ripen in the autumn.

2019 O’Shaughnessy Estate, Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa 6x75cl

VM97+
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 1,809 cases O'Shaughnessy's Mt. Veeder Cabernet is truly emotive of its surroundings. The Mount Veeder AVA is an island of ancient seabed, pushed... up in the formation of the Mayacamas Mountains five million years ago, that is unique to Napa. Acquired in 2000 and know as 'Betty's Vineyard', the vines on this steeply terraced site struggle for nourishment and moisture, consistently producing clusters with small berries and intense flavours. 7 of the 22 hectares are under vine, and it’s one of the most remote and breathtaking vineyards in Napa. It's a stunning yet wild terrain covered with forests of redwood, oak, bay and maple, and incredibly steep slopes making the use of machinery all but impossible. This complex, demanding terroir and cool climate is reflected in the wines, as you can see in all of the reviews.

2015 Realm Cellars, Moonracer Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD97
Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Vintage production: c.350 cases Realm's Moonracer Estate sits on Wappo Hill near the town of Yountville. At 170 metres... above sea level, it's the highest elevation point on the valley floor. Wappo Hill was named after the Native American tribe that was prevalent in the area long before California was a state. The Wappos believed in Animism, a spiritual idea that all the elements of the natural environment have a soul. The Moonracer name and label are an oblique reference to the earliest inhabitants of the place Realm now calls home. The Cabernet Sauvignon-based Moonracer is composed of the finest lots from the Estate vineyard. Winemaker Benoit Touquette has much to choose from, as the site, with its multiple blocks, elevations, facings and diverse soils, has character in spades. Moonracer bears the unmistakable mark of this stimulating vineyard as well as the Stags Leap District. The wine is strong and powerful yet elegant, with refined tannins and plenty of depth. It beautifully combines characteristics typical of northern and southern Napa Valley. For the label, Barcelona-based artist Sergio Albiac inserts data taken from weather stations at the Moonracer vineyard, including temperature, wind, and solar radiation, into an algorithm that produces abstract images based on the data. Each vintage of Moonracer is represented by data from that particular year, and each label is unique.

2019 O’Shaughnessy, Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain 6x75cl

JD98+
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 1.5% Petit Verdot, 1.5 % St. Macaire, 1% Carménère, 1% Cabernet Franc Vintage production: 4,385 cases If ever a wine evoked the true spirit of... its surroundings, it would be the majestic O'Shaughnessy Estate Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. As you ascend the scenic Deer Park Road from the Valley floor the air becomes crisp and clear, filling with notions of wild herbs, pine trees, and sequoia. The soil becomes darker and rockier as the ancient volcanic terrain takes over, and there's an overriding feeling of serenity and calmness. These feelings are mirrored in the O'Shaughnessy 2019's gorgeous fruit and aromatics, distinctive minerality, gorgeous purity, and underlying elegance. Jeb Dunnuck awarded O'Shaughnessy Estate's highest score to date, an impressive 98+ points, suggesting more to come from what he calls "An incredible wine, and it flirts with perfection." Famed for it's longevity, a future triple-point score isn't out of the question... O'Shaughnessy's Howell Mountain Estate surrounds the winery, flowing through three distinct sites: The Amphitheatre Vineyard derives its name from the way it caresses the dramatic hillside, and the Rancho Del Oso Vineyard take its name from a resident black bear! The latest addition is the Osprey's Nest Vineyard, just upslope from the winery, which is shared with a young family of Ospreys. At the hands in winemaker Sean Capiaux, these three parcels exemplify the unique diversity of Howell Mountain.

2021 Fait Main, Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD97
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Production: 325 cases The Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard traces its roots back to 1877 when it was first planted with vines by George Hopper. In the 1960s it was... purchased by Bruce Kelham and became part of the historic Vine Hill Ranch, until legendary vintner Andy Beckstoffer added it to his Heritage Vineyard programme in 1996. The Bale clay loam and sediment that predominate here were washed down the slopes of the Mayacamas mountains to the west, creating optimal drainage conditions that encourage vines to root deeply in search of water. Fait-Main sources from two blocks located in the southwestern portion near Vine Hill Ranch, where soils are especially deep and well-draining. Prized for their ultra-silky tannins and luminous fruit, these wines deliver opulence and energy in equal measure.

2021 Realm Cellars, The Tempest, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD98JS97WI97
Blend: 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec Vintage production: 830 cases The Tempest was one of the first wines, and the first Proprietary Blend, produced by Realm Cellars. At the time, it... seemed almost uncanny that they were able to access three grape varietals at the same time from the same vineyard; it was blind luck or perhaps the proverbial “perfect storm.” The resulting wine reflected a fierce determination to brave the storm as well as a new desire to realise the possibilities of Merlot. Fruit for The Tempest is sourced from the cooler-climate Oak Knoll and Coombsville AVAs in the south of Napa. By building The Tempest 2021 around a core of fruit from Realm's world class Farella Vineyard, Coombsville's greatest site, their decision has paid off big time with the most elegant, pure and structured vintage we've tried to date. Having worked with this historic site (formerly a component of Opus One) since 2003, and farming it themselves for many years, the Realm Cellars team knows it better than anyone. With the switch from 'tenants' to owners, it's now a certainly that this stunning new iteration of The Tempest is the blueprint for the Napa Merlot by which all others will be measured. To signify this change in direct from The Tempest, and new label was commissioned to U.K. artist Richard Twose. Twose works in the tradition of non-finito, where the artwork is carried only to a point, leaving observers to fill in the rest for themselves. This technique resonates with Realm, where the feeling is that wine is an art form that invites participation, allowing wine lovers to attach their own memories to each bottle.

2021 Fait Main, Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja Vineyard, Oakville 6x75cl

JD98+
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 375 cases From the eastern hillside of Oakville, the Fait-Main Tierra Roja Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 represents the reawakening of a... legendary Napa site, with owner Linda Neal giving Benoit exclusive access to this epic terroir. Look above and you’ll see Dalla Valle Vineyards; look down and there’s BOND St. Eden; crane your neck tot eh south, and Screaming Eagle and Tench Vineyard sit side-by-side. It’s Napa’s very own ‘Route des Grands Crus’. This is a stonkingly good wine and we expect high scores when the critics get their hands on a bottle, you’ll be getting this before them! Four Corners Wine: “This is a classical Cabernet from the very first aromatics, dripping with regal stature and poise. The notes of warm red earth could come from no other piece of Napa land, framed with wet clay, a bright floral lift, and a core of charcoal and pencil shavings, all wrapped within a broad spread of delicious fruit. The depth is astounding on the nose, as it is on the palate. At this early stage there's an almost primal feel to the incredible 'volcanic' tannins, as it builds to a stacked mid-palate and fantastic finish. Layers of dark chocolate and preserved black fruit only hint at the complexity of the wine. Given a few years to settle down in the cellar, this is destined for greatness and explores the nuances of hillside and Valley floor in riveting fashion. What a debut for Fait-Main!” (Sep. 2023)

2017 Larry Hyde Vineyard Estate, Chardonnay, Los Carneros 6x75cl

RP95+
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 550 cases Larry Hyde is the King of Chardonnay growers in California. His fruit is hand-selected by the very best producers for their single vineyard... bottlings: Mark Aubert, Steve Kistler, David Ramey and Aubert de Villaine (Hyde de Villaine & Domaine de La Romanée Conti), to name just a few. In 1979, Larry planted the legendary Hyde Vineyard in Los Carneros, Napa's coolest-climate, and quickly built his reputation as one of the finest growers in California. A Chardonnay with 'Hyde Vineyard' on the label is of an assured 'Grand Cru' level, yet the story gets even more compelling. In 2005, Larry took the leap from grower to winemaker and planted his family's new Estate Vineyard, described by Mark Aubert as “Where Burgundy meets California” – a brilliant summation of the Larry Hyde 'Hyde Vineyard Estate' Chardonnay produced from this remarkable site.

2019 The Mascot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 8,000 cases The Mascot offers a stunning expression of the Harlan Family's entire portfolio of world-class vineyards, in a truly exceptional... vintage. The fruit is hand selected and vinified from the younger vines at Harlan Estate, BOND and Promontory, making The Mascot a sensational glimpse into three of the most revered Estates in the World. The Mascot began as a personal project by Will Harlan, who persuaded his family to allow him to select barrels of the 'Grand Cru' estates so he could create a wine to share at his own table. The Harlan winemaking team took some convincing at first, but eventually Cory Empting and his crew began to set aside certain barrels an annual basis to produce a special wine, according to Will’s selection.   This intimate bottling has a deliberate identity all of its own, its terroir lying not only in the origins of the fruit, which already has eyepopping pedigree, but also in the careful selection of barrels made by Will, Cory and the Mascot team. Blended with the same level of precision as the 'Grand Vins', The Mascot is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet expression, giving huge pleasure on release, while built to last.

2021 Lail Vineyards, Georgia Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley 6x75cl

RP96VM92/100WI97
Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc Vintage production: 416 cases Following its inaugural 2002 vintage release, Robin Lail's Georgia single-handedly revolutionised Sauvignon Blanc in California. Georgia... was inspired by her winemaker Philippe Melka’s time working at Château Haut Brion, where he fell in love with Haut Brion Blanc. They were among the first to use the same winemaking approach in Napa to produce a Sauvignon Blanc of the same exceptional quality and ageworthy style, as good as any other in the world. When Robert Parker famously described the Georgia as "California's most complex and multi-dimensional Sauvignon Blanc" Robin and Philippe's instincts were proved right. This is a wine characterised by energy, richness and remarkable depth, always differentiated by the nuances of each vintage.
