2021 Greer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford 12x75cl

JD99JS98
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 500 cases The famous 'Rutherford Bench' is steeped in history, and loaded with some of Napa's most iconic producers. Here, surrounded by one of... Joseph Phelps Insignia-designated sites, the Inglenook Estate, Staglin Family, and the 'First Growth' Scarecrow (J.J. Cohn) Vineyard, lies a postage stamp sized diamond - Greer Vineyard. At just 2 hectares in size, Greer Vineyard is about 1/5 the size of Scarecrow. It was purchased by Rob and Cyd Greer in the early 1980s and quickly became important source for Opus One. They chose the auspicious 2007 vintage to make their debut, and in short time Greer Cabernet Sauvignon has attracted the attention of serious collectors, as well as some of the biggest names in the Valley. This is truly a wine for the ages, and there’s no doubt whatsoever that we are witnessing the emergence of a new legend of the Rutherford Bench. Simply stunning.

2018 Scherrer, Scherrer Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 12x75cl

VM90
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Production: 150 cases The Scherrer Estate Vineyard surrounding the family’s farm and house in Alexander Valley, at the base of the Vaca Mountains. Four Corners... Wine: "The 2018 is a beautifully distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon. The aromatics are loaded with minerality and exotic sandalwood, super-high notes of dark chocolate and floral coffee beans, unusual yet utterly captivating and refined. The palate boasts an incredible structure, coiled and full of tension and energy. With air, layers of pure reds fruits emerge with an elemental-mineral undertone. Notes of toasted fennel seeds and cassis emerge on the long finish. This has masses of cellaring potential, and pushes the envelope for Sonoma Cabernets. In a word: stunning."

2021 Andremily, No. 10 Syrah, California 12x75cl

JD97-100RP97+WI96-98
Blend: 93% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 2% Viognier Vintage production: 900 cases The Andremily Syrah No. 10 2021 is a particularly special and poignant vintage for Jim Binns as it’s the 10th vintage of... Andremily, which began with the No. 1 Syrah 2012. It’s a vintage worthy of such a celebration, boasting a beautifully warm (but never hot) season and dry conditions, resulting in gorgeous small bunches which had time to mature slowly on the vines to add even more complexity. It is a masterpiece that “is going to flirt with perfection at maturity” in the eyes of Jeb Dununck (97-100pts). Jim’s own description is worth the admission alone: “This sultry temptress is sure to please with its soaring aromatics and rich full texture. It must be tasted to be believed.” It’s built around of core of Syrah from a line-up of top sites throughout the Central Coast, including White Hawk (Cat Canyon), Larner (Ballard Canyon), Harrison-Clarke (Ballard Canyon), Kimsey, and Alta Mesa (Santa Barbara County), and Slide Hill - Andremily’s first Estate Vineyard, in Edna Valley.

JD96-98RP100WI97-99
Blend: 88% Mourvèdre, 12% Syrah Vintage production: 500 cases There is nothing in the world that can compare with the Andremily Mourvèdre. As Perrotti-Brown says: “I think it is safe to say... that with the possible exception of Beaucastel’s Hommage a Jacques Perrin, there is no one in the world producing greater Mourvedre than Jim.” A perfect 100pts from The Wine Advocate for the 2021 adds further strength to this, and Jim’s thoughts are too good not to share: “A filthy and delicious concoction, this amazingly hedonistic wine aims to please offering heaps of blue fruit, strawberry garrigue, and crushed rocks with hints of tar, as well as plenty of that sexy Mourvedre funk.” The vineyard sources are Alta Mesa (Santa Barbara County), G2 (Paso Robles), Larner (Ballard Canyon), and Slide Hill - Andremily's new Estate Vineyard in Edna Valley.

2019 Mauritson Wines, Rockpile Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Rockpile 12x75cl

RP95
Blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot Vintage production: 740 Straddling the ridge between the two arms of Lake Sonoma is the Rockpile AVA. One of the newest... appellations in California, Rockpile's location and history can be described in one word: dramatic! S.P. Hallengren, great-great-great grandfather of Founder & Owner Clay Mauritson, first planted vines on the Rockpile valley floor in 1884, shipping every ounce of his wine back to Sweden. The Family's Rockpile homestead and ranch grew to 1,600 hectares by the early 1960s, when all but 280 ridgetop hectares were taken by the Army Corps of Engineers in order to develop Lake Sonoma. The vineyards shown in many of the historic family photos are now under water. It was not until the early 1990s that the first acres of modern-era vines were planted and thrived, once it was discovered that Rockpile held great potential for ultra-premium mountain fruit. What makes Rockpile so unique? The AVA is located at the Northwest edge of Dry Creek Valley where the two regions actually overlap. All the vineyards within the Rockpile AVA range from between 240-600m in elevation. Although Rockpile is located just 13 miles from the coast, Lake Sonoma provides an inversion layer that prevents the heavier fog that typically blankets other Northern California appellations, allowing for longer, more consistent sun exposure. Moisture and daytime temperatures are regulated by howling coastal breezes and, in many cases, the steep slopes and rocky terrain require non-motorised vine management. Running through Mauritson's Rockpile Ridge Vineyards is the Healdsburg–Rogers Creek Fault, a dominant earthquake fault in Northern California, and you can see why the story of Rockpile is pure geo-political drama. Four Corners Wine: "Great Cabernet expression, yet quite unlike anything we've tried before. The nose has a great profile of bramble fruit with a really pure streak of cassis, underscored by a nice mellow minerality and the faintest of floral notes. It's all framed by layers of fresh tobacco and cedar. The palate is fascinating, with the most incredible tannins, great energy, a rich and velvety structure with bags of super intense blackcurrant and blackberry. The finish has great length, completing an utterly refined Cabernet bursting with personality. Fantastic now, with a good 15 years ageing potential." (Dec. 2022)

2021 Bevan Cellars, Ontogeny Red Wine, Napa Valley 12x75cl

JD98
Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec Vintage production: 2,036 cases The key to this magical and dynamic blend is the vineyard sources: in addition to Sugarloaf... Mountain, Sage Ridge, and Wildfoote, the core of the fruit comes from blocks 5 and 7 in the Tench Vineyard which literally run alongside the fenceline of neighbouring Screaming Eagle - that's some serious terroir. Russell makes his selection in the cellar, picking single-vineyard barrels that are crying out to be blended together for an earlier drinking, hedonistic, and utterly delicious wine. 2021 Unwritten, Signature Series Oakville Station Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville 12x75cl

JD99WI96-98
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 50 cases 2021 marks the inaugural release of the Signature Series Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, and what a vintage in which to debut! The Oakville... Station Vineyard is rich in Napa Valley history and has been proclaimed to be the most important vineyard anywhere in the world, as so many foundational experiments have been conducted on this property by viticulture students at UC Davis that have shaped the Napa Valley wine region. Sandwiched between Robert Mondavi’s Monastery Block, the Oakville Grade and Walnut Drive, it is at the heart of the original To Kalon Vineyard. For those Napa Valley history buffs, the original budwood for Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon came from the Oakville Station. Today, the modern Oakville Station comprises two vineyards of 8 hectares each: the Old Federal Vineyard, which was part of Hamilton Crabb’s Ranch (considered one of the pioneers who developed Napa Valley as a wine region) and the South Station, from Stelling’s McGill Ranch, all of which are farmed by the viticulture program at UC Davis. Fruit for the 2021 was harvested on 20th September, and the wine spent 23 months in new French oak (Darnajou and Taransuad) prior to bottling on 21st August, 2023.

The wine is a masterclass in counterpoint: the mountain fruit brings waves of density and structure while the valley floor fruit imbues the lush power that stitches the complex elements together. 2021 MAXEM, U.V. Lucky Well Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast 12x75cl

Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 130 cases MAXEM is all about precision, ultra-focused winemaking, and celebrating the finest terroir of the Sonoma Coast at the hands of winemaker Sam... Kaplan. The wines are elegant, pure, remarkably balanced wines loaded with tension and energy, that have knocked us off our seats every time we've tasted them. They're as close in class to the Grand Crus of Burgundy we've ever experienced in California, while maintaining their unmistakable Sonoma DNA. 2021 is MAXEM's first ever vintage from the legendary U.V. Lucky Well Vineyard . This site sits atop a knoll on the western edge of the Sebastopol hills outside of the towns of Graton and Sebastopol. The area is home to some of the most highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in the Russian River Valley due in large part to the perfect confluence of soil, climate, and elevation. The vineyard is in an area often referred to as the “banana belt” of the Russian River Valley because, though on the very coolest, foggiest, and western edge of the appellation, it sits on a knoll that rises above the fog line. This feature exposes the fruit to more gentle sunlight, which allows very slow and even ripening across the entire growing season. Four Corners Wine: "This debut release of U.V. Lucky Well Chardonnay is sublime. There's a beautiful note of reduction on the nose bringing notes a struck flint, leading to aromas of dried tarragon, an insane level of minerality, and a sense of ultra-purity. So impressive. The palate is just amazing, with so much concentration and energy, and phenomenal energy. It's all about texture, minerality, with laser-focused fruit. Simply brilliant - epic." (Sept. 2023)

2016 Soliste, Forêt Pinot Noir, Sonoma County 12x75cl

Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage Production: 193 cases Forêt comes from a magnificent secluded vineyard near Occidental. The hillside vineyard has a northeastern exposure, a very steep slope, and is... in the middle of a spectacular redwood forest. Just 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean on the western coastal range, is perhaps the most visually stunning vineyard which Soliste uses – the depth of aromatics and spice in Forêt are a pure reflection of this truly unique vineyard’s site, slope, climate, and clone. Don Plumley & Claude Koeberle: "Deep hues of dark plums, cassis, boysenberries with brilliant amethyst gemstone, showing specs of skin pulp and minerals, which denotes whole cluster press extraction. Forêt’s alluring nose is a complex bouquet of blackcurrants, graphite mineral, black pepper, plums, Bing cherries, interlaced redwood pine needles. As the wines open up, profound aromas of dark fruit compote, licorice, spiked with Alpine forest smells, burnt orange peel, elevate the wine to an Amaro like infusion. Decanting is a must for this wine to appreciate all of its subtilities. The front palate is exceptionally voluptuous and textural, with pure concentration of blackberries, dark cherries, boysenberries, and candied violets, all lifted by dried herbal and evergreen forest. The mid-palate possesses an immensely concentrated core of dark fruit compote, framed by the rich structuring tannins created by our commitment to the whole cluster press. As the wine opens up, the luscious, exotic dark fruit elixir is layered with pulpy tannins adding earthy tones, gaminess, exotic spices, mint, and black pepper, all in perfect harmony. The finish is impressive in its length, focus and complexity. The whole clusters are definitely present, chewy, grippy, pulling the richness of the fruit into an aristocratic elegance. Bright acidity of red tart cherries, cranberry, and violet, infused with wet stone minerals lift the mid-palate fruit density, elongating the wine into a perpetual finish."

2021 Dragonette, Rita’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD95VM97
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage Production: 330 cases One of the producers at the forefront of Sta. Rita's Hills' success is Dragonette Cellars. Winemaker Brandon Sparks-Gills, and brothers Steve and... John Dragonette, select the region's elite vineyards to make Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays of utter refinement and distinction. Rita’s Crown vineyard is located at one of the highest points in the Sta. Rita Hills, adjacent to such famous sites as Mt Carmel and Sea Smoke. The soils are a mix of sandy and clay loams with a good amount of diatomaceous earth. Dragonette's Chardonnay comes from two parcels: block 16, (clone 76) lies at 800-950 feet on a steep, west-southwest facing hillside above the monastery, and block 12 (clone 95), a steep south facing hillside just below and to the west. These higher elevation blocks are exposed to fog and clouds most mornings and high winds most afternoons, cooling the vineyard. The climate and the low vigour soils produce a small canopy, small yields and a long, slow growing season. The wines here typically show beautiful, ripe tropical fruit flavours, balanced by remarkable acidity and strong notes of chalky minerals.

Dragonette purchases fruit here from two distinct blocks of older vines (1999) and oldest vines (1972), buying by the acre so they may employ specialized organic farming practices. These stately vines stand tall on their enormous trunks, while still producing a solid crop of beautifully concentrated grapes. The resulting wines display sappy red and black cherry fruits with old-vine style and grace.

2021 Dragonette, Radian Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD97JS96RP95VM95
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage production: 500 cases Radian vineyard is located at the far western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills on dramatically steep slopes with large amounts of diatomaceous earth.... Radian is extreme, regularly blanketed by fog and buffeted by high winds. The vines here struggle to set fruit, and the resulting yields are extremely low, but the grapes highly concentrated. The resulting wines are energetic and intense, with a fascinating mineral streak and a remarkable depth of flavour.
