RP97+
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 440 cases Coming from the custom vineyard that the legendary viticulture specialist Phil Freese planted in 1989 to showcase one of the best sites... in California, this Cabernet always demonstrates a remarkable sense of site. The berries then cold soak for 4-7 days with minimal air incorporation, allowing for complex colour and tannin extraction. Native yeast carry out cooler fermentations to preserve the unique aromas of the terroir. Air and temperature are controlled throughout the 14-24 day fermentation, and extended maceration is determined lot by lot to maintain the fine line between full extraction and keeping an elegant, silky texture. Wines go through malolactic fermentation naturally in barrel and are aged (sur-lie) for 22 months.

RP97
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage production: 657 cases The Lucky Well vineyard sits atop a knoll on the western edge of the Sebastopol hills outside of the towns of Graton and Sebastopol. The area is... home to some of the most highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in the Russian River Valley due in large part to the perfect confluence of soil, climate, and elevation. The vineyard is in an area often referred to as the “banana belt” of the Russian River Valley because, though on the very coolest, foggiest, and western edge of the appellation, it sits on a knoll that rises above the fog line. This feature exposes the fruit to more gentle sunlight, which allows very slow and even ripening across the entire growing season. Arista's 4-acre section was planted in 2008 to Pommard, Swan, and Calera clones of Pinot Noir.

2020 Argot, Indigo Syrah, Sonoma Mountain 12x75cl

WI96
Blend: 100% Syrah Vintage production: 75 Indigo is a selection from Justin's favourite Syrah terroir, with an emphasis on the Alban 1 clone, given an extended elevage in new, French oak barriques... for maximum impact and richness. The 2020 spent 31 months in French oak, 25% new. The vineyard is situated at 335m of elevation on a north-facing, gently-rolling hillside on the foothills of Sonoma Mountain. It is composed of a geological upheaval of ashy, moondust-like soils, littered with ancient seabed. Sonoma Mountain’s ridgetops — demarcating the cool Sonoma Coast AVA, from the more moderate Sonoma Valley AVA — delivers an utterly unique expression of Syrah, distinct from that grown elsewhere in Sonoma County.

Kaplan. The wines are elegant, pure, remarkably balanced wines loaded with tension and energy, that have knocked us off our seats every time we've tasted them. They're as close in class to the Grand Crus of Burgundy we've ever experienced in California, while maintaining their unmistakable Sonoma DNA. 2021 is MAXEM's first ever vintage from the legendary U.V. Lucky Well Vineyard . This site sits atop a knoll on the western edge of the Sebastopol hills outside of the towns of Graton and Sebastopol. The area is home to some of the most highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in the Russian River Valley due in large part to the perfect confluence of soil, climate, and elevation. Lucky Well Chardonnay is sublime. There's a beautiful note of reduction on the nose bringing notes a struck flint, leading to aromas of dried tarragon, an insane level of minerality, and a sense of ultra-purity. So impressive. The palate is just amazing, with so much concentration and energy, and phenomenal energy. It's all about texture, minerality, with laser-focused fruit. Simply brilliant - epic." (Sept. 2023)
