2021 Seven Apart, Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1x75cl

WI98+
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot Vintage production: 1,500 cases There is no doubt at all: Seven Apart is a name that will soon be spoken of alongside the Napa's... Elite wineries. The Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon is based around a core of fruit from the Estate's Base Camp Vineyard, sprinkled with hand-picked barrels from Estate's Stags Ridge Vineyard. The resulting wine in 2021 is a gorgeous expression that, for us, shows a new side to Napa that we can't wait to bring to the UK's most discerning cellars. Stags Ridge Vineyard sits above the fog line at an elevation of 450 metres on Atlas Peak's rocky, red volcanic soils. The small berries on these 25 year old vines produce wines rich in colour, tannin, and concentration. Base Camp Vineyard, planted between 1994 and 1998, surrounds the winery at the base of Atlas Peak in Soda Canyon, nestled alongside the famous Silverado Trail. The soils here consists of sand, clay, and gravel, giving the wines a rich structure and opulence. Such great fruit demands a great winemaker, and that person is Morgan Maureze. Having spend his formative years working at Dominus Estate, where his father was appointed general manager in 1985, Morgan graduated from UC Davis and the University of Bordeaux. He spent time working at Châteaux Haut-Brion and Petrus, before completing his Thesis at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti! He was inexorably drawn back to California, where he was hand-picked by legendary winemaker Andy Erickson, becoming his right-hand man at Estates including Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle Vineyards. Andy was Seven Apart's inaugural winemaker in 2018, before championing Morgan as his successor in 2023 - most importantly, they had already worked together on the 2021s, so Morgan was the perfect choice.

JD94WE96
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot Vintage production: 3,215 cases While Lail's J. Daniel Cuvée is one of Napa's elite Cabs, their most complete expression of the Valley is the... Blueprint Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a refined, inviting, and highly complex wine that will never fail to impress. Like the J. Daniel, the fruit is sourced from a hand-picked selection of Vineyards, combining their favourite sites from Diamond Creek in the north to Coombsville in the south. It is a highly personal look at what 'Napa Cabernet' means to Robin and Philippe, and demonstrates why it is one of the most exciting regions in the world.

2022 Realm Cellars, Fidelio Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley 6x75cl

Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc Production: 500 cases Realm Cellars' unerring dedication to perfection has seen their portfolio of Single-Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons reach true 'Napa First Growth'... status. From Beckstoffer Dr. Crane to Moonracer, they are some of the Valley's elite wines and as collectible as it gets. There is one Single-Vineyard wine at Realm Cellars that stands apart for being the rarest of them all (only 500 cases produced), and representing the Estate's only white cuvée - Realm Cellars Fidelio Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sourced from Realm's Farella Estate Vineyard in Coombsville. Winemaker Benoit Touquete used three different vessels (and materials) to age Fidelio – demi-muid neutral oak barrels, concrete eggs, and terracotta amphoras. Each vessel contributes to Fidelio’s unique layers, complexities, and depth. Benoit thinks the Fidelio 2022 has the freshness of Dagueneau and the richness of Château Mouton-Rothschild's Ygrec - the best of both worlds, and we thoroughly agree. It is a wine that captures perfectly the ethos of Realm – richness and freshness, at the same time.

2021 Teeter-Totter, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 12x75cl

JD93
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petite Sirah, 5% Charbano, 5% Zinfandel Vintage production: 6,000 cases Anyone who's drunk a Cabernet Sauvignon made by Benoit Touquette will know why he's... regarded as one of the greatest winemakers of his generation. With countless 100 point scores to his name, he's at the top of his game. So when he releases a Cab under his own label, it's a complete no-brainer! That makes his Teeter-Totter Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 one of the shrewdest buys from Napa, especially with Jeb Dunnuck saying "California needs more wines like this." With Teeter-Totter, Benoit gets to cherry pick fruit from his favourite vineyards throughout Napa. The result is a red that's both serious and complex, as well as delicious and moreish from the word go. In 2021, the final blend was 85% Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the most famous and prestigious vineyards in Rutherford, with 5% each of Petite Sirah, Charbono and Zinfandel from Calistoga. It's in the classic Benoit-style with plenty of richness and opulence, with a great structure to carry it along.

2022 Nid Tisse, Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay, Los Carneros 1x75cl

WI97
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 131 cases Nid-Tissé is already well on the way to being one of California’s most sought-after labels, and the naturally low production levels means... getting an allocation at release is essential. Owner and winemaker Marie-Laure Ammons studied in Bordeaux and Burgundy before moving to California where she was hand-picked by Philippe Melka to join his team. Following 18 years at Atelier Melka, gaining hands-on experience at California’s top vineyards, she took the next step in her career to start Nid-Tissé. With her inaugural 2019 vintage releases, Marie-Laure rocketed to the top with her mailing list becoming a waiting list in the blink of an eye. Sommeliers and buyers at the top Michelin-starred restaurants scrambled for an allocation, and the subsequent amazing scores fanned the flames! For her Chardonnays, Marie-Laure made no compromise in selecting two of the most famous names of all: from Hyde Vineyard in Napa’s Los Carneros (hence the connection with Chris Hyde!), she uses a rare selection of 32 and 29 year old vines, with the Nid-Tissé Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2022 spending 12 months in a combination of 67% new Burgundian French oak, and 33% custom made Italian clay amphora. Rich and intense with extraordinary complexity, coupled with superb energy and acidity, this is a modern-day Hyde classic. Further northwest, towards the coast, the historic Bacigalupi Vineyard lies in the heart of Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. Since the early 1970s, this site has been heralded as one of the most important in California, playing a winning role in a certain ‘Judgement of Paris’. While that was a significant moment in time, the wines produced there now are better than ever. Marie-Laure has access to the best block of Wente Clone vines, with the Nid-Tissé Bacigalupi Vineyard Chardonnay 2022 seeing 16 months in a mixture of 80% old Burgundian French oak and 20% clay egg. The result is a gorgeous wine driven by texture and elegance.

2015 Realm Cellars, Moonracer Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD97
Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Vintage production: c.350 cases Realm's Moonracer Estate sits on Wappo Hill near the town of Yountville. At 170 metres... above sea level, it's the highest elevation point on the valley floor. Wappo Hill was named after the Native American tribe that was prevalent in the area long before California was a state. The Wappos believed in Animism, a spiritual idea that all the elements of the natural environment have a soul. The Moonracer name and label are an oblique reference to the earliest inhabitants of the place Realm now calls home. The Cabernet Sauvignon-based Moonracer is composed of the finest lots from the Estate vineyard. Winemaker Benoit Touquette has much to choose from, as the site, with its multiple blocks, elevations, facings and diverse soils, has character in spades. Moonracer bears the unmistakable mark of this stimulating vineyard as well as the Stags Leap District. The wine is strong and powerful yet elegant, with refined tannins and plenty of depth. It beautifully combines characteristics typical of northern and southern Napa Valley. For the label, Barcelona-based artist Sergio Albiac inserts data taken from weather stations at the Moonracer vineyard, including temperature, wind, and solar radiation, into an algorithm that produces abstract images based on the data. Each vintage of Moonracer is represented by data from that particular year, and each label is unique.

2019 Dalla Valle, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1x75cl

JD97JS98RP98+VM97WI98
Blend: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc Vintage production: c.1,000 cases Eastern Oakville is one of Napa Valley's most star-studded neighbourhoods. Overlooking them all from the highest... point s one of the Estates that elevated Napa to the top of the global scene in the 1990s, Dalla Valle Vineyards. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the wine that it all began with back in 1986, when founders Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle introduced their hillside Estate Vineyard to the world with this debut vintage. It's the small addition of Cabernet Franc - which thrives in the iron rich volcanic soils, that sets this wine apart. While the 2018 vintage may have been a tough act to follow, the 2019s standout as another classic, idyllic Napa Valley vintage to remember. A milestone was reached at Dalla Valle in 2019 as they embraced the world of Biodynamic farming. Their deep love and connection to this land inspired them to begin this journey, and they have not looked back since. The elements of energy and vibrancy show in the 2019 vintage. A cool winter and mild rainy spring replenished the vines and provided them with the energy to sustain the heat of summer and perfectly ripen in the autumn.

2021 Realm Cellars, Farella Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JS98VM98WI97+
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot Vintage production: 500 cases Farella Vineyard is Realm’s Estate vineyard in the Coombsville AVA. A fantastically complex site in the foothills of the Vaca... Mountain range, the vineyard lies in one of the cooler regions of the Napa Valley. The site features layers of volcanic tufa, red decomposed rock and ashy deposits from ancient landslides, vast geologic episodes that literally turned this vineyard on its head. The 25 acres of vines are divided into numerous blocks with elevations ranging between 300 and 500 feet. Varying slopes create distinct microclimates and soil compositions, and the vineyard’s diversity is suitable for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. Realm has produced a Single Vineyard Cabernet from Farella since 2003. In 2018, they partnered with the Farella family on a plan to become long-term stewards of the estate. The core of Realm’s Farella Cabernet comes from a high point in the vineyard, a block referred to as “rockpile” because of the preponderance of stone and gravel in the soil. This block is bathed in afternoon sunlight during the growing season and the wine - concentrated and beautifully-structured - consistently shows a mix of red and black fruits with spice and mineral overtones. Farella has been historically 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, comprising Clones 4 and 8, but they began working with Merlot in the 2019 vintage. The 2021 Farella Vineyard introduces a new artwork on the label by Ethiopian-born artist Wosene Worke Kosrof. He uses contorted symbols of his native Amharic language to represent dance and movement in this artwork Heart of Dance. The label is a tribute to Frank Farella, a lover of music, dance and language, who founded Farella Vineyard in the mid-1970s.
