2019 Dana Estates, Lotus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1x150cl

JD100VM100
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot Vintage production: 372 cases Hailed by Robert Parker as “Their First Growth Terroir”, Lotus is situated at the northern reaches of Howell... Mountain, and presents the challenge of farming slopes ranging from 35° to 40°, at an elevation of 365 metres above sea level. Given these extreme aspects, the farming here is all painstakingly performed by hand. The entirety of the vineyard is planted on core stone bedrock and is 95% dry-farmed. The bedrock just beneath the surface causes the vines' roots to struggle in the search for water below, resulting in a Cabernet that is compelling for its power, intensity, vibrancy, and tension.

2019 The Mascot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 8,000 cases The Mascot offers a stunning expression of the Harlan Family's entire portfolio of world-class vineyards, in a truly exceptional... vintage. The fruit is hand selected and vinified from the younger vines at Harlan Estate, BOND and Promontory, making The Mascot a sensational glimpse into three of the most revered Estates in the World. The Mascot began as a personal project by Will Harlan, who persuaded his family to allow him to select barrels of the 'Grand Cru' estates so he could create a wine to share at his own table. The Harlan winemaking team took some convincing at first, but eventually Cory Empting and his crew began to set aside certain barrels an annual basis to produce a special wine, according to Will’s selection.   This intimate bottling has a deliberate identity all of its own, its terroir lying not only in the origins of the fruit, which already has eyepopping pedigree, but also in the careful selection of barrels made by Will, Cory and the Mascot team. Blended with the same level of precision as the 'Grand Vins', The Mascot is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet expression, giving huge pleasure on release, while built to last.

2019 Cliff Lede, Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District 6x75cl

RP100
Blend: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot Vintage production: 1,471 cases Cliff Lede's Poetry Vineyard sits in the foothills of the Vaca Mountains in Napa's Stags... Leap District AVA, and this iconic cuvée has been described by Robert Parker as "The quintessential Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon that is Napa Valley’s version of Château Margaux." Having averaged a breath-taking 99 points with Dunnuck and The Wine Advocate since head winemaker Christopher Tynan joined in 2012, it more than deserves this comparison. Poetry draws its uniqueness from shallow, volcanic soils atop fractured shale. Due to the stressful nature of the site, planted with high vine density and farmed to very low yields, the vines develop slowly and produce small flavourful berries. The vineyard is planted to legendary, proprietary heritage selections of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 stands as one of the finest vintages to date with a perfect 100 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown (TWA) who describes it as "Finishing epically long and staggeringly gorgeous. WOW!"

2019 Dana Estates, VASO Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

JD95
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc Vintage production: 6647 Cases VASO is to Dana Estates what The Mascot is to Harlan Estate, BOND and... Promontory. Dana Estates' vineyards are ranked as “Some of the best sites in Napa Valley” by Robert Parker, and VASO is built around the younger vines and hand-picked barrels that really show-off the incredible range of flavours and aromatics at winemaker Chris Cooney’s disposal. Like the single-vineyard Cabs, only the precious free-run juice is used and there is as little intervention as possible by the team, allowing the terroir to shine through. The core of the VASO 2019 is from the Estate's Hershey Vineyard, just a stone's throw from Abreu's Las Posadas on Howell Mountain, complemented by fruit from their regal Lotus Vineyard – “Their First Growth terroir” (RP) – and historic Helms Vineyard which surrounds the winery in western Rutherford. The VASO is released with the optimum bottle age so it’s absolutely gorgeous to pop open straight away, while holding plenty of cellaring potential. We cannot recommend this showstopper of a Napa Cab highly enough.

2019 Unwritten, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 12x75cl

WI97
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 136 cases Unwritten is a true insider's secret, known only to those with an inside track, this gorgeous Cabernet is a unique marriage of Oakville... and Howell Mountain 'Grand Cru' Vineyards. The inaugural 2014 vintage was an instant sell-out, taking pride of place on the lists of two Napa culinary institutions: The French Laundry, and Press. It has since become one of the hottest tickets in Napa. The fruit for this remarkable Cabernet comes from the historic Lewelling Vineyard in the western foothills of Napa's famed Saint Helena AVA, a stones throw from the Beckstoffer Dr Crane, Spottswoode and Abreu Madrona Ranch vineyards - the A-list neighbourhood. This is a Cabernet that ticks all the boxes: perfect bottle age from an epic vintage, drinking beautifully now, rare as hen's teeth, poured at one of the greatest 3* restaurants in the world. Four Corners Wine: "This 100& Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully structured and more savoury expression of the flamboyant 2019 vintage. The nose is full of inviting aromas of fresh bay leaves, a hint of star anise, lovely dark berries, framed by a lifted floral note of Spring flowers. There's a fantastic richness on the palate which is wonderfully fresh and energetic. It's the depth and structure of the tannins that really shines here, promising a brilliant evolution. The intense fruit of Oakville is married perfectly to the minerality and vibrancy of Howell Mountain."

2019 Vérité, Assortment Case, Sonoma County 3x75cl

RP100/99/99WI100/100/98
Case contains 1x75cl each: Le Désir 2019, La Joie 2019, and La Muse 2019 With scores of 100/99/99 points from The Wine Advocate, and 100/100/98+ from The Wine Independent, the 2019s are three... sensational wines that offer a remarkable vinous journey through Sonoma's greatest terroir. Founded and developed by pioneer vintner Jess Jackson, the goal of Vérité was to focus on exploring the identity of eastern-Sonoma's hillside vineyards through combining expectational sites across to showcase terroir and vintage characteristics to the highest standard. Jackson's first-choice to head the project renowned St. Emilion winemaker Pierre Seillan, who arrived for the first vintage in 1998. They both took inspiration from the most famous Châteaux of Pomerol to craft a distinctly 'Sonoma' Merlot that could stand proudly aside it's French cousins - La Muse. It was such a resounding success and led them to explore more micro 'Grand Crus' along the mountainous eastern portion of Sonoma. They soon developed a Cabaret Sauvignon based cuvée that was a dead ringer for the greats of Pauillac - La Joie - and a Cabernet Franc led blend inspired by the modern classics of St. Emilion - Le Désir. Now, with significant input from Pierre's daughter, the uber-talented Hélène Seillan, the 2019s have transcended any comparison to Bordeaux to stand among the most exceptional and striking examples of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in Northern California.

2019 Mauritson Wines, Rockpile Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Rockpile 1x75cl

RP95
Blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot Vintage production: 740 Straddling the ridge between the two arms of Lake Sonoma is the Rockpile AVA. One of the newest... appellations in California, Rockpile's location and history can be described in one word: dramatic! S.P. Hallengren, great-great-great grandfather of Founder & Owner Clay Mauritson, first planted vines on the Rockpile valley floor in 1884, shipping every ounce of his wine back to Sweden. The Family's Rockpile homestead and ranch grew to 1,600 hectares by the early 1960s, when all but 280 ridgetop hectares were taken by the Army Corps of Engineers in order to develop Lake Sonoma. The vineyards shown in many of the historic family photos are now under water. It was not until the early 1990s that the first acres of modern-era vines were planted and thrived, once it was discovered that Rockpile held great potential for ultra-premium mountain fruit. What makes Rockpile so unique? The AVA is located at the Northwest edge of Dry Creek Valley where the two regions actually overlap. All the vineyards within the Rockpile AVA range from between 240-600m in elevation. Although Rockpile is located just 13 miles from the coast, Lake Sonoma provides an inversion layer that prevents the heavier fog that typically blankets other Northern California appellations, allowing for longer, more consistent sun exposure. Moisture and daytime temperatures are regulated by howling coastal breezes and, in many cases, the steep slopes and rocky terrain require non-motorised vine management. Running through Mauritson's Rockpile Ridge Vineyards is the Healdsburg–Rogers Creek Fault, a dominant earthquake fault in Northern California, and you can see why the story of Rockpile is pure geo-political drama. Four Corners Wine: "Great Cabernet expression, yet quite unlike anything we've tried before. The nose has a great profile of bramble fruit with a really pure streak of cassis, underscored by a nice mellow minerality and the faintest of floral notes. It's all framed by layers of fresh tobacco and cedar. The palate is fascinating, with the most incredible tannins, great energy, a rich and velvety structure with bags of super intense blackcurrant and blackberry. The finish has great length, completing an utterly refined Cabernet bursting with personality. Fantastic now, with a good 15 years ageing potential." (Dec. 2022)
