Stylistically, Vangone is a phenomenal expression of Cabernet Sauvignon: rich and hedonistic, while refined and textured in equal measure. Proprietor Mark Davidowski and winemaker Sam Kaplan (Arkenstone Estate, Maxem, Momento Mori) produce a unique trio of wines: 100 cases each of two individual vineyard parcels, Block B and Block D, as well as masterfully combining them into the Estate Cabernet (250 cases).
Block D faces Atlas Peak to the east, on an incredibly steep part of the vineyard. This Cabernet is characteristic for its fruit-driven nose and incredibly powerful, structured core.

*Established in 1882, Spottswoode Estate is distinguished by the pre-Prohibition Victorian... home depicted on our wine label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts in 1910 and later acquired by Mary and Jack Novak in 1972. Mary released Spottswoode’s first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding.
Situated on the western edge of St. Helena in Napa Valley, the Spottswoode Estate terroir is ideal for winegrowing. The alluvial clay loam from the Sulphur Creek fan provides superb drainage while cool maritime breezes passing between Spring Mountain and the Mayacamas range allow the fruit to ripen evenly.
At Spottswoode, grape growing and winemaking are intimately linked. In addition to the health and resilience that organics and biodynamics have brought to the vineyard, the individual attention given to each block contributes to the consistent quality and unique characteristics of the wines.

*There are two sides to Grenache: the rich, deep and peppery wines, and those driven by elegance, purity and vibrancy. One of the best exponents... of the latter, more feminine style is winemaker Sonja Magdevski and her Clementine Carter label.
Perfectly described as "Pinot Noir lover's Grenache" by Jeb Dunnuck, Sonja's wines are utterly joyous and unlike anything else in our cellar. Best of all, despite vineyard production topping out at just over 300 cases, they are astonishingly well-priced.
Sonja produces tiny volumes of incredible Grenache, based around some brilliant vineyards in Santa Barbara County. The Kimsey and Larner Vineyards are in Ballard Canyon, and in addition to Sonja, their fruit is sourced by some of THE greatest winemakers in California, including Jim Binns for his Andremily wines. Sonja also sources some awesome fruit in Sta. Rita Hills for her third cuvée.

*Santa Barbara County is the new frontier for West Coast Cabernet Sauvignon, with the cooling influence... of the Pacific Ocean brining a level of elegance and refinement that make the wines stand out. By far, the leading winery is Crown Point Vineyards in Happy Canyon at the most easterly part of the region. Here, another young and uber-talented talented French winemaker, Simon Faury, has made his home under the Californian sunshine, and is taking this remarkable Estate into the big leagues of Cabernet producers.
Crown Point's calling card wine is their sublime Relevant Cabernet Sauvignon. It paints the complete picture of the Estate with around 80% Cabernet Sauvignon complimented by 10% Merlot, and a splash each of Petit Verdot and Malbec. The classic 'Bordeaux blend'.

The wine is composed of small lots from the best blocks, representing a diverse range of carefully selected clones and rootstocks. From Poetry’s exposed, rocky terraces boasting volcanic origins, to the ancient riverbed alluvial soils of Twin Peaks, the breadth of contributing sites translates into a wine of impressive complexity and longevity.

At just 2 hectares in size, Greer Vineyard is about 1/5 the size of Scarecrow. It was purchased by Rob and Cyd Greer in the early 1980s and quickly became important source for Opus One. They chose the auspicious 2007 vintage to make their debut, and in short time Greer Cabernet Sauvignon has attracted the attention of serious collectors, as well as some of the biggest names in the Valley.
This is truly a wine for the ages, and there’s no doubt whatsoever that we are witnessing the emergence of a new legend of the Rutherford Bench. Simply stunning.

Counting two of the region's top sites in the Estate portfolio - the Sierra Madre Vineyard in Santa Maria, and Peake Ranch Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills - winemaker Wynn Solomon has fruit of the highest quality possible to pick from. Both sites are combined to perfection in the Santa Barbara County Chardonnay.
