2021 Carter, Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon The O.G., Oakville 6x75cl

JD99
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: n/a With low yields and intense concentration, 2021 turns out to be very good year for the ‘O.G.’ block of Beckstoffer To Kalon. This is a... dense and ethereal Napa Cabernet Sauvignon revealing gorgeous notes of black and blue berry, complex floral and earth undertones matched with an inky deep purple color. Sweet firm tannins integrate with a plush, persistent and prodigious palate that has both weight and richness. As with prior tannic vintages of this wine, the structure and power of the clone 337 from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard lends itself well to an extended decant or several years of bottle age to really spread its wings. This wine should hit its prime in 5 to 10 years and continue to age and become more complex for decades.

2019 FUTO, 5500 Stags Leap District Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1x75cl

JD99JS98VM100
Blend: 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot Vintage production: 330 cases The 5500 Stags Leap District Estate Vineyard surrounds Tom’s home in the foothills of the Mayacamas, on the site of an old... quarry. Since its inaugural release in 2012 this Cabernet has topped the charts for this AVA every vintage, and the 2019 stands to be considered the greatest ever wine from Stags Leap District. As Antonio Galloni says in his 100pt review: “This is quite possibly the greatest wine I have ever tried from here. Dazzling.” Four Corners Wine “Wow! The aromatics are captivating from the outset with notes of pure sandstone and exotic sandal wood, building to a really lifted minerality. So refined and pure with the most incredible elegance, with a delicate perfume of spring flowers and an ethereal layer of wood smoke. The palate too is utterly beguiling, stunning, and gorgeous on all fronts, full of elegance and finesse leading to the most delicious core and juicy, impeccably made tannins. This is a phenomenal wine, as good as it gets, and will be a timeless legend of Napa Valley.” (Sept. 2023)

2021 Unwritten, Signature Series Oakville Station Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville 1x75cl

JD99WI96-98
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 50 cases 2021 marks the inaugural release of the Signature Series Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, and what a vintage in which to debut! The Oakville... Station Vineyard is rich in Napa Valley history and has been proclaimed to be the most important vineyard anywhere in the world, as so many foundational experiments have been conducted on this property by viticulture students at UC Davis that have shaped the Napa Valley wine region. Sandwiched between Robert Mondavi’s Monastery Block, the Oakville Grade and Walnut Drive, it is at the heart of the original To Kalon Vineyard. For those Napa Valley history buffs, the original budwood for Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon came from the Oakville Station. Today, the modern Oakville Station comprises two vineyards of 8 hectares each: the Old Federal Vineyard, which was part of Hamilton Crabb’s Ranch (considered one of the pioneers who developed Napa Valley as a wine region) and the South Station, from Stelling’s McGill Ranch, all of which are farmed by the viticulture program at UC Davis. Fruit for the 2021 was harvested on 20th September, and the wine spent 23 months in new French oak (Darnajou and Taransuad) prior to bottling on 21st August, 2023.

JD99RP98
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 225 cases 120 spectacular hectares in the middle of the valley floor, the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard had its first grapes planted by... Elizabeth Rutherford in 1895. Famed history flows through the veins of this historic vineyard from Georges De La Tour to Andre Tchelistcheff. This site was put on the map by Mike's former mentor, Thomas Rivers Brown at Schrader Cellars. Mike has now usurped Thomas as the best exponent of this historic Rutherford vineyard with the highest ever scores for a 'G III' Cabernet Sauvignon: potential perfection with 98-100pt WA. In 1988 the Beckstoffer Georges III was replanted using new Cabernet Sauvignon Clones with tighter spacing and advanced trellising systems enhancing both quality and grape tonnage. The Myriad Beckstoffer Georges III blocks are positioned on slight uplifts and rolling knolls, offering better drainage, early ripening and delicious and integrated natural acidity. Wonderfully, in 2009 – 73ha were placed under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development.
