2015 Dana Estates, Helms Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford 3x75cl

JD99
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 245 cases Surrounding the winery in western Rutherford, This gently sloping site is relatively cool, and is protected from the intensity of the... late afternoon heat during the height of the growing season. The gravelly loam soils provide excellent drainage and wonderful fruit purity. Helms Vineyard Cabernet displays the classic profile of the Rutherford Bench: dark fruit, richly layered with a touch of spice and earth. The finely grained “dusty” tannins so prevalent in the appellation are integrated and harmonious, producing a wine of sophistication and depth.

2017 Saxum, The Hexe, Paso Robles 1x75cl

JD99
Blend: 58% Grenache, 27% Mataro, 11% Petite Sirah, 4% Tempranillo Vintage production: 1,098 cases Hexe is a remarkable, multi-vineyard cuvée that is built around Grenache. Not just any old Grenache... though. Justin Smith selects the blackest, most wicked Grenaches, the ones that he knows will benefit from 33 months aging in various large puncheons or concrete amphora. The heart of this cuvée is the oldest block at James Berry Vineyard, a South facing hilltop Grenache block that was planted in 1980. Around this he weaves in some of the most intense Grenache and Mataro blocks from G2 Vineyard, along with a bit of Petite Sirah from Paderewski Vineyard. It is the dark side of Grenache. Black magic!

2019 Dalla Valle & Ornellaia, DVO, Napa Valley 3x75cl

JD99WI98
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc Vintage production: 550 cases DVO Napa Valley, the joint-venture between Dalla Valle Vineyards and Ornellaia, has firmly established its ‘Cult’... status among the world’s collectors, and has quickly taken its position on the most exclusive restaurant wine lists. Winemakers Maya Dalla Valle & Axel Heinz have crafted two of the most celebrated wines in the world - Maya and Masseto. Given the Elite status these two wines command, DVO is on the path to join them. Their shared passion and skill are on display in full glory with DVO, and they went to extraordinary lengths to pick three first-class vineyards in the Oakville, Coombsville and Mount Veeder AVAs. Each brings a distinctive character to the Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, and stylistically it is unlike anything else we’ve tasted from Napa. As Perrotti-Brown says: “Draped in flamboyant drama, this is a very different, very exciting new face of Napa Valley!”

2018 Blankiet Estate, Paradise Hills Vineyard Rive Droite, Napa Valley 1x75cl

JD99
Blend: 96% Merlot,4% Cabernet Franc Vintage production: 298 cases Blankiet Estate is nestled above Yountville on the western foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The Paradise Hills... Vineyard is carved on steep hillsides just above the famed Dominus Estate Napanook parcel that was originally planted in 1838 by Yountville’s founder, George C. Yount. With an ideal eastern exposure, the land is bathed with morning sun and benefits from natural shade in the hot afternoons, and cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay flow constantly across the land. It's located on three volcanic knolls where soil profiles vary from deeply fractured rocks and volcanic ash, to thick clay deposits, meaning each parcel is distinguished by a unique subsoil and microclimate. At just 6.5 hectares in size it's a remarkably small site, yet the incredible complexity of the terroir allows for three distinct wines, each of a singular style. This is an Estate at the top of its game. Combined with the very talented winemaker Graeme MacDonald and owner Claude Blankiet's attention to detail, is truly worthy of an exploration.
