Description

*Blend: 93% Sauvignon Blanc, 7% Sémillon
*Vintage production: 450 cases

*Equal to the Estate Red, the Estate Sauvignon Blanc is done in the Bordeaux style of winemaking, including a small percentage of Sémillon in the final blend. As with many Bordeaux Châteaux, Arkenstone utilises large concrete eggs for the vinification as well as new and once-used French oak.

The free-run Sauvignon Blanc is fermented and aged in oak and concrete vessels for roughly a year sur-lie and without racking or battonage. The Semillon is fermented and aged sur-lie for the same time but in all-new French oak. Once blended, the Estate Blanc is then aged in bottle for 18 months before release. The Wine Balance, structure, and texture are at the core of the Estate Blanc. This foundation makes it quite versatile at the dinner table. From raw seafood to hearty pork dishes, the combination of rich fruit and bright acidity makes it a perfect match.

Though easy to enjoy, the Estate Blanc is more intellectual than it is quaffable. Whereas most Sauvignon Blanc blends are meant to be enjoyed for the prelude to an evening, Arkenstone’s has the integrity to last from amuse-bouche to the final dessert of a lengthy meal.

Howell Mountain is composed primarily of volcanic soils. At Arkenstone, the vines are planted in red Aiken Loam and White Tufa. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are planted in the Tufa, comprised of compacted volcanic ash, and are 100% organically grown.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

James Suckling 98

There is a lovely mineral edge, with aromas of grilled lemons, chalk, citrus blossoms, grapefruit, phosphorous, wet stones, pastry and flint. The palate is taut, tense and precise, showing underlying power coming from extended time on the lees in barrels and concrete, with driving acidity and a mouthwatering, minerally finish. This is excellent and one of Napa s very best whites. Drink or hold. Only 229 cases made. [James Suckling, 01/04/2026]

Decanter 97

Sourced from the 5.3-hectare Arkenstone Estate on Howell Mountain, this white blend is composed of 93% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Semillon. The wine is aged for 11 months sur lie in a combination of concrete egg, new French oak and used oak, followed by 18 months of bottle ageing. Consistently low-yielding with tightly wound pH levels year after year, this is a white built to age superbly well a point I ve explored in depth in my reporting for Decanter Magazine on ageworthy Sauvignon Blancs. In 2023, the wine is positively glammed-out, charged with energy and tension that is off the charts. A rare mid-palate lushness and richness emerges almost unheard of given how firmly it is bookended by chiselled, diamond-cut acidity, as winemaker Sam Kaplan describes it. Candied mineral notes layer with apricot and kumquat, slate-tinged citrus peel, and hints of vanilla and slivered almond, all carrying through a long, resonant and intensely mineral-driven finish. A thrilling, complete and seriously ageworthy white. [Jonathan Cristaldi, 08/01/2026]

Anticipated maturity: 2026-2040

The Wine Palate 98

The 2023 Estate Sauvignon Blanc is composed of 93% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Semillon. It spent 11 months sur-lie in concrete egg, new French oak barrels, and used French oak barrels, and was aged for 18 months in total. It prances out of the glass with showy notes of fresh green apples, passion fruit, and grapefruit, followed by hints of chalky dust, coriander seed, lime blossoms, and white truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers amazing intensity and tension with layers of citrus and tropical fruit flavors and a wonderfully oily texture, leading to a long, chalky finish. [Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 01/11/2025]

Anticipated maturity: 2025-2033

*Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon *Vintage production: 750 cases *Owners Ron and Susan Krausz purchased their Estate in 1997 after falling in love with the property's rugged beauty and natural setting... among the forests of Howell Mountain. They adored the profile of the Cabernet from the steep, eastern volcanic slopes of Napa, and they began to explore further south in the Vaca Mountain Range for additional sources of outstanding fruit. This led to the birth of their NVD ('Napa Valley Designate') label - a remarkable expression Mountain Cabernet.

*Blend: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec *Vintage production: 750 cases *Arkenstone Estate Winery and winemaker Sam Kaplan are a match made in heaven, turning... heads with their thrilling Cabernet Sauvignon-driven Howell Mountain Estate wines since 2006. Arkenstone Estate is perched high on the west-facing slopes of Howell Mountain. It’s a breathtaking property that has been farmed organically since day one, and you’ll find Sam in the vineyard tending to vines as often as in the cellar. It takes this unerring level of commitment to build such a high reputation, and produced wines of this quality.

2017 Arkenstone, Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Howell Mountain 1x75cl

DE95JD95
*Blend: 94% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Semillon *Vintage production: 380 cases *The Arkenstone Estate Sauvignon Blanc, originally planted in 1997, is grown in 6 different very steep, very rocky, vineyard... blocks on the Howell Mountain Estate. Choosing to plant only in the perfect patches of nutrient lacking, well-drained, white volcanic soils, the team can grow very concentrated, rich, but balanced, beautiful Sauvignon Blanc. Along with the Sauvignon Blanc in the lower part of our vineyard, we also farm a small block of Semillon which forms part of the final blend. The percentage of Semillon will change each vintage, but the results are always consistent. The Semillon adds beautiful floral aromatics along with a bigger mid-palate that seamlessly complements and integrates with the Sauvignon Blanc’s natural notes of melon, citrus, and minerality. From Arkenstone’s rigorous farming practices to crafting the final blend in the winery, this is very much their tip of the cap to the classic white wines of Bordeaux. As with all 13 acres (5.3ha) of the Arkenstone Estate, the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are both farmed exclusively in-house using only organic farming techniques overseen by Winemaker Sam Kaplan.

*Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc *Vintage production: 463 *Following its inaugural 2002 vintage release, Robin Lail's Georgia single-handedly revolutionised Sauvignon Blanc in California. 2022 marks... one of the most refined and thrilling vintages to date, as winemakers Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky continue to evolve their approach by drawing back on the amount of new oak (60%) to allow the terroir of Lail’s Totem Vineyard to shine through better than ever. The result is a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc loaded with energy and purity, while upholding the classic hallmarks of depth and intensity that continue to make it such a West Coast icon. Georgia was inspired by her winemaker Philippe Melka’s time working at Château Haut Brion, where he fell in love with Haut Brion Blanc. They were among the first to use the same winemaking approach in Napa to produce a Sauvignon Blanc of the same exceptional quality and ageworthy style, as good as any other in the world. When Robert Parker famously described the Georgia as "California's most complex and multi-dimensional Sauvignon Blanc" Robin and Philippe's instincts were proved right. This is a wine characterised by energy, richness and remarkable depth, always differentiated by the nuances of each vintage.
