The Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red 2021 is a divine blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from a heralded site on the cooler, far southeast hillsides of Napa Valley. With beautifully expressive aromatics of mulberry, damson, black tea, and dark chocolate, leading to a palate of stunning richness, gorgeous tannins, and the purest of mineral finishes, this is one of Russell’s finest Sugarloafs to date. 98-100pts sees The Wine Advocate in agreement!

The Wine Independent 99

The 2021 Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red, 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot, is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps out of the glass with vivacious notes of red and black plums, redcurrant jelly, and kirsch followed by hints of rose oil, dried lavender, and underbrush with a touch of Sichuan pepper. The full-bodied palate has electric tension and shimmery red and black fruit layers framed by plush tannins, leading to a long and perfumed finish on this beautiful wine. [18/10/2023]

The terrific 2021 Proprietary Red Sugarloaf Mountain is a 60-40 blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot from this vineyard in southern Napa. Vaguely floral and leafy, loaded with purple raspberries and cherries, this is really complex, with lovely fruit. Full-bodied, supple, silky and seamless, it finishes long and elegant.     Deliveries are made through London City Bond.

    We deliver Monday-Friday and charges are £16 ex-VAT for the majority of UK postcodes (Highlands and Islands will incur additional charges).

    We can also offer next-day delivery for central London addresses if an order is placed before 12:00 the previous day, and also offer same day deliveries at an additional charge.

    Storage and Transfer fees

    We can also arrange deliveries to other storage accounts. Prices vary from £12 ex-VAT (within the London City Bond warehouses) to £16 ex-VAT for delivery to all other storage providers (likes of Octavian).

Leap District AVA, and this iconic cuvée has been described by Robert Parker as "The quintessential Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon that is Napa Valley’s version of Château Margaux." Having averaged a breath-taking 99 points with Dunnuck and The Wine Advocate since head winemaker Christopher Tynan joined in 2012, it more than deserves this comparison. Poetry draws its uniqueness from shallow, volcanic soils atop fractured shale. Due to the stressful nature of the site, planted with high vine density and farmed to very low yields, the vines develop slowly and produce small flavourful berries. The vineyard is planted to legendary, proprietary heritage selections of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 stands as one of the finest vintages to date with a perfect 100 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown (WA) who describes it as "Finishing epically long and staggeringly gorgeous. WOW!"

Mountains. ?The Paradise Hills Vineyard is carved on steep hillsides just above the famed Dominus Estate Napanook parcel that was originally planted in 1838 by Yountville’s founder, George C. Yount. With an ideal eastern exposure, the land is bathed with morning sun and benefits from natural shade in the hot afternoons, and cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay flow constantly across the land. It's located on three volcanic knolls where soil profiles vary from deeply fractured rocks and volcanic ash, to thick clay deposits, meaning each parcel is distinguished by a unique subsoil and microclimate. At just 6.5 hectares in size it's a remarkably small site, yet the incredible complexity of the terroir allows for three distinct wines, each of a singular style. This is an Estate at the top of its game. Combined with the very talented winemaker Graeme MacDonald and owner Claude Blankiet's attention to detail, is truly worthy of an exploration.
