Starting with the 2019 White (96-99 JD), a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Roussanne, it offers a rich, gold hue as well as an utterly sensational bouquet of ripe stone fruits, honeysuckle, flower oil, tangerine, and hazelnuts. Reminding me slightly of a blockbuster Chardonnay from Mark Aubert, it s full-bodied and has a deep, layered texture and a great finish. This is heavenly juice. The 2019 Syrah Two Become One (97-99 JD) is up there with the finest Syrahs in California. Like the 2020, it includes a good portion of white grapes, with the final blend being 94% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre, and 3% Roussanne, with 25% stems and 20 months in 70% new oak. Rocking aromatics of peppery herbs, violets, smoked meats, and bright blue fruits all define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with a more focused, chiseled, lengthy mouthfeel that carries plenty of tannins. This complex, nuanced, incredibly impressive Syrah will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and cruise for over a decade in cold cellars. The 2019 Grenache Two Become One (95-97 JD) is flat-out gorgeous and shows how Grenache can be both powerful and elegant at the same time. Kirsch, darker berries, sandalwood, and spice notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, pure, and elegant on the palate. It doesn’t have the density of the 2020, but it s aromatic, complex, nuanced, and has fabulous length on the finish. The 2019 is 76% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, and 11% Syrah that saw 29% stems and 20 months in 56% new French oak. [29/08/2022]
