The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Houyi Vineyard is statuesque and towering in the glass. Huge swaths of tannin enshroud a core of blackberry jam, chocolate, spice and dried herbs. The Houyi boasts a huge mid-palate and so much of the detail that makes this site, nestled between Colgin and Brand, so distinctive. This potent Cabernet needs bottle age, but it is pretty special, even in the early going.

Some smoky, reductive notes as well as building black fruits and herbal notes emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Houyi Vineyard, which is full-bodied and has serious mid-palate depth as well as masses of tannins. It has all the right components and is a brilliant wine, but the cellar is going to be your friend. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.
