Description

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage production: 400 cases

The Wildfoote Vineyard is located in the narrowest part of the Stags Leap District AVA, roughly halfway between Cliff Lede Vineyards and Realm Cellars.

This 114 acre wild protected wooded knoll in the heart of Stags Leap District is surrounded by 22 acres (9 ha) of foothill vineyards. The land was first developed by Si and June Foote, founders of the Napa Valley Land Trust. The property was purchased in 2011 by Jean Phillips, who renamed the vineyard to reflect its roots. She replanted and redeveloped the blocks, naming them after the area’s wild animals. It is planted primarily in Cabernet Sauvignon with small blocks of Merlot, Petite Verdot, and Cabernet Franc for blending very special wines.

Russell Bevan utilises the best fruit from the Vixen Block for this sensational Cabernet Sauvignon. The classic elegance of Stags Leap District shine through with this aromatic yet finesses Cabernet. The aromatics are typically of floral and blue fruits; the palate is all about the simply incredible texture and purity.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Robert Parker 97

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Vixen Block Wildfoote Vineyard was aged for 19 months in French oak barrels, 100% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with savory notes of sauteed herbs, black olives and beef drippings over a core of warm blackberries, blackcurrant jelly and wild blueberries with a waft of garrigue. Medium to full-bodied, finely crafted and elegant in the mouth with fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, it finishes with fantastic energy and length. 400 cases were made. [Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 11/02/2021]

Anticipated maturity: 2023-2046

Jeb Dunnuck 97

From a site in Stags Leap, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vineyard Vixen Block is another full-bodied, seamless wine from Bevan that shines on all accounts. Lots of blue fruits, violets, chocolate, and flowery incense notes define the bouquet, and it s incredibly layered and polished on the palate, with silky tannins. I finished my note with Love it. [27/01/2021]

Vinous 97

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vineyard Vixen Block is one of the most complex wines in the entire range. Red fruit, iron, mint, rose petal, spice and blood orange give the 2018 a real feeling of exotic beauty. Each taste reveals a new facet. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s striking aromatic presence and overall intensity. [Antonio Galloni, 01/12/2019]

Anticipated maturity: 2023-2033
