Description

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage production: 125 cases

The Sage Ridge Vineyard is in the glitzy ‘Pritchard Hill’ area, facing Chappellet and Colgin Cellars across the edges of Lake Hennessey in the Vaca Mountains. The soil’s story endures with the uplifting of ancient shallow seabeds, plate tectonics, and glaciation that continues over millennia with the erosion and transportation of old metamorphic rock created under intense heat and pressure.

The signature characteristics of the Cabernets produced here are a delectably pure fruit character delivered with finesse, and aromatically lifted by an unmistakable mix of wildflowers and savoury herbs.

The 2018 spent 20 months in 100% new French oak.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Jeb Dunnuck 95

The Cabernet Sauvignon Sage Ridge Vineyard is a more lifted, perfumed wine and has a great nose of blueberries, mulberries, wildflowers, cedary spice, and incense. This carries to a beautifully textured, full-bodied, elegant 2018 with loads of texture and richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It s one of the more approachable Cabernets in the lineup, but my money is on it evolving gracefully for 15-20 years with no issues. [27/01/2021]

Anticipated maturity: 2021-2041

2018 Argot, Sugarloaf Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 12x75cl

JD94+
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 125 cases The Sugarloaf Vineyard (aka Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard) is located in the far southeast of Napa Valley, which is a much cooler part of... the region due to the influence of the marine breezes from the nearby San Pablo Bay. It sits on of two distinct soil types: black rock and red volcanic rock, large 'galets' of which radiate heat in the evening to protect the vines. The wines here are classically dark and intense, with the longer growing season giving them an age-worthy style. The 2018 spent 20 months in 100% new French oak.

2019 Aperture, Del Rio Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 12x75cl

RP97
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 464 cases From one of the steepest hillside vineyards at the top of Chalk Hill Road in the southeast corner of Alexander Valley, this exquisite... site creates incredibly gorgeous wines with delicate, soft tannins that melt into the juicy dark fruits of this powerful Cabernet. The grapes are hand-harvested and delivered to the winery within hours of being picked. Every cluster is methodically and obsessively sorted through 3 sets of sorting tables before being optically sorted to specific preferences. The berries then cold soak for 4-7 days with minimal air incorporation, allowing for complex colour and tannin extraction. Native yeast carry out cooler fermentations to preserve the unique aromas of the terroir. Air and temperature are controlled throughout the 14-24 day fermentation, and extended maceration is determined lot by lot to maintain the fine line between full extraction and keeping an elegant, silky texture. Wines go through malolactic fermentation naturally in barrel and are aged (sur-lie) for 22 months.

2019 Unwritten, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 12x75cl

WI97
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 136 cases Unwritten is a true insider's secret, known only to those with an inside track, this gorgeous Cabernet is a unique marriage of Oakville... and Howell Mountain 'Grand Cru' Vineyards. The inaugural 2014 vintage was an instant sell-out, taking pride of place on the lists of two Napa culinary institutions: The French Laundry, and Press. It has since become one of the hottest tickets in Napa. The fruit for this remarkable Cabernet comes from the historic Lewelling Vineyard in the western foothills of Napa's famed Saint Helena AVA, a stones throw from the Beckstoffer Dr Crane, Spottswoode and Abreu Madrona Ranch vineyards - the A-list neighbourhood. This is a Cabernet that ticks all the boxes: perfect bottle age from an epic vintage, drinking beautifully now, rare as hen's teeth, poured at one of the greatest 3* restaurants in the world. Four Corners Wine: "This 100& Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully structured and more savoury expression of the flamboyant 2019 vintage. The nose is full of inviting aromas of fresh bay leaves, a hint of star anise, lovely dark berries, framed by a lifted floral note of Spring flowers. There's a fantastic richness on the palate which is wonderfully fresh and energetic. It's the depth and structure of the tannins that really shines here, promising a brilliant evolution. The intense fruit of Oakville is married perfectly to the minerality and vibrancy of Howell Mountain."
