In Burgundy, a winemaker may reserve a special barrel for friends and family. They call this barrel Soliste. The Solitaire Pinot Noir is co-founders Don Plumley and Claude Koeberle’s ode to this concept, with a single-barrel given an extended ageing of 20 months to produce one of Sonoma’s most riveting wines.
The fruit for Solitaire is sourced from the Guidici Vineyard, hidden among the redwoods near Occidental in the western reaches of Sonoma. It’s the pinnacle of Soliste’s unique ‘Monoclone’ programme: a single clone from a single vineyard, aged in a single cooperage to craft extraordinary wine that exemplifies their identity and sense of place.
Four Corners Wine:
“The most deliciously classic Pinot aromatics soar from the glass, with rich undertones of mushroom, dried lavender, and crushed rosemary leading bright sparks of preserved cherries and a hint of white balsamic. With air, even more layers emerge with plums, and an almost cocoa/earthy note adding further depth. On the palate, the concentrated core opens to reveal crystal clean notes of crunchy red berries, a light dusting of earthy spices, building to a velvety core of gorgeous tannin and a crisp finish. It builds and builds with time in the glass, and will be an utter joy to open anytime over the coming 10+ years. What a wine!” (Nov. 2021)
