The Summer sunshine means it’s the perfect time for some al fresco dinning, and I'm sure many of us will be firing up the barbeques accordingly.

Those smoky flavours and delicious marinades demand wines of depth, intensity, freshness and structure, and the classic Rhône-varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre) are a perfect match.

We've hand-picked two of our favourites for the job: one, a recent arrival making its UK debut, and one from a Four Corners and Paso Robles 'OG' Estate...

The Jaffurs Thompson Vineyard Syrah 2020 is a brand-new wine for us, and one that blew us away when we tasted for the first time at the winery the Spring. The winery itself is just minutes from the beach in Old Town Santa Barbara, while the Thompson Vineyard lies to the north in the regional foodie capital of Los Alamos. The 30+ year old vines bring an extra dimension of complexity to what is already a beautiful Syrah. Dark, peppery, expressive, and seriously well crafted, this is a shoe-in for Syrah fans.

Slacker Wines is the irreverent and much-loved side-project from winemaker/owner of Linne Calodo, Matt Trevisan. Matt is one of the Godfathers of Paso Robles, leading the way for this exciting region for over 40 years! His work with Rhône-varietals has shaped Paso's identity and played a leading role in elevating the AVA to its world-class status. The epic Linne Calodo reds are famed for their longevity, so Matt created Slacker to cherry pick the most delicious, expressive, and satisfying parcels of fruit that beg to be enjoyed from the word go. The Computer Geek 2020 is a stone-cold classic, driven by layers of bright fruit and plenty of depth.

These two gems are available for immediate delivery and will lift any great BBQ feast to the next level!

2020 Slacker Wines, Computer Geek, Paso Robles 12x75cl

Blend: 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Graciano, 10% Carignan Vintage production: 260 cases The 2020 Computer Geek comes from three estate vineyards farmed by winemaker Matt Trevisan in the Willow... Creek District. The driving element is Syrah from the Perch Block at Stonethrower Vineyard, located just 10 miles from the ocean at an elevation of 1,350 feet. The Syrah component is rounded out by fruit from the Estrella Block at Stonethrower Vineyard and the Cold Shoulder Block at the Linne Calodo estate. The Grenache, Graciano and Carignan hail from a mix of blocks at Stonethrower, Linne Calodo and Oakdale vineyards. Native yeast fermentation. An extended whole-cluster fermentation of the Perch Block Syrah sets the tone, driving the wine with an earthy, savoury character. After fermentation, the various blocks were pressed to 228, 265 and 500-liter French oak barrels (20% new oak), where they underwent extended aging for 30 months prior to blending. Complete Linne Calodo treatment - no additional expense spared from winegrowing through winemaking, but differentiated as a Slacker blend with an emphasis on softer edges and immediate approachability.
