The first reviews from Jeb Dunnuck's Sonoma expert, Audrey Frick, for the 2021 vintage have just been published, and we couldn't be more thrilled to announced scores from 96 to 100 points for Arista Winery in Russian River Valley, and Aperture Cellars in Alexander Valley.

In Matt Courtney at Arista, and Jesse Katz at Aperture, you have two of California's most exciting young winemakers, and between Matt's single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays and Jesse's single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, the full and majestic breadth of Sonoma's terroir on show.

Arista's Ritchie Vineyard Chardonnay 2021 and Aperture's Del Rio Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 have topped the charts with perfect 100 point scores apiece, followed closely by their respective stablemates. A special mention must also got to Jesse's firsr-ever vintage Devil Proof Farrow Ranch Cima Ladera 2021 which debuted with 99 points!

We'll let Audrey's scores have the spotlight, which you can read in full below alongside our own notes. Be forewarned that volumes are incredibly low, and we will do our utmost to fulfil all requirement. Do NOT hesitate to place your order as quickly as possible!

2021 Arista, UV El Diablo Vineyard Chardonnay, Russian River Valley 1x75cl

JD96JS97
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 389 cases Arista's most distinctive wine is the El Diablo Vineyard Chardonnay. The site rests on a ridgeline in the heart of the Russian River Valley AVA... that's cooled by the morning and evening coastal mists, yet bathed in glorious California sunshine for a few hours each day. Arista's vines are composed of Old Wente and Montrachet clones, on the vital Goldridge soils - a recipe that produces the most classical of wines: rich, intense, earthy, and loaded with fruit and spice, all balanced by a minerality and energy that showcases winemaker Matt Courtney's contemporary approach.

2021 Devil Proof, Farrow Ranch Cima Ladera, Alexander Valley 3x75cl

JD99RP98
Blend: 65% Malbec, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage production: 580 cases The Farrow Ranch vineyard is a unique and distinctive site with two incredible blocks of terroir worthy of adding to the Devil... Proof portfolio. This special wine is a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, making it's debut in 2021. Winemaker Jesse Katz (Aperture) carefully selected individual vines from these blocks to contribute to this blend. Each vine is hand harvested and brought into the winery within hours of being picked. The clusters are methodically and obsessively sorted down to the individual berry. Each vineyard block is separated and will cold soak for 5 days with minimal air incorporation, allowing for optimal extraction, flowed by cooler fermentations with native yeast. Oxygen and temperature are controlled throughout the 21-day fermentation and extended maceration is determined lot by lot as we walk the fine line of full extraction and elegant, silky textures. The Cima Ladera 2021 went through malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels and are aged (sur-lees) for 22 months.

2021 Arista, UV Lucky Well Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley 6x75cl

JD97JS98
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage production: 653 cases The Lucky Well vineyard sits atop a knoll on the western edge of the Sebastopol hills outside of the towns of Graton and Sebastopol. The area is... home to some of the most highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards in the Russian River Valley due in large part to the perfect confluence of soil, climate, and elevation. The vineyard is in an area often referred to as the “banana belt” of the Russian River Valley because, though on the very coolest, foggiest, and western edge of the appellation, it sits on a knoll that rises above the fog line. This feature exposes the fruit to more gentle sunlight, which allows very slow and even ripening across the entire growing season. Arista's 4-acre section was planted in 2008 to Pommard, Swan, and Calera clones of Pinot Noir.
