How's this for a serious line-up of Napa Cabernets for your cellar: Harlan Estate, SLOAN Estate, Promontory, BOND... No two are alike, yet they share a common thread of being among the very best, exhibiting vineyard management and winemaker of the highest possible order. With a combined total of 67x100 scores between them, there's very little doubting that they sit among the elite Cabernet Sauvignons.

So what a prospect when the two leading figures behind these iconic label produce a wine together from their own Estate Vineyard: that's husband and wife team, Bob Levy and Martha McClellan. Located in the hills above Calistoga, their gorgeous LEVY & McCLELLAN vineyard has remained one of Napa's most secret addresses since they planted their first vines in 1999.

They craft two Cabernet Sauvignon-led gems with a combined production of around just 500 cases. The flagship LEVY & McCLELLAN 2019 is mesmerising, and incomparable in the context of Napa Cab. There's an almost Prioriat-esque vibe to the tannins, with a Mouton-style freshness and expression. There's no doubting its roots though, as delicious waves of fruit cascade across the palate. The 2019 has a very long life ahead of it!

The AMERSAND 2019 is also dominated by Cabernet, but a slightly higher proportion of 10% Merlot in the blend makes a big difference in how inviting and decadent the wine is. For all that, it's a majestic Cabernet that will surely come close to matching the LEVY & McCLELLAN in the cellar.

2019 LEVY & McCLELLAN, AMPERSAND Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 6x75cl

Blend: c.80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc Production: c.225 cases Crafted by Bob with his wife Martha McClellan (winemaker at SLOAN ESTATE) at their family... Estate, LEVY & McCLELLAN is one of Napa's A-list 'closed-door' wineries, producing ultra-rare wines (just 375 cases annually) exclusively available and winery-direct from Four Corners Wine in the UK. The duo produces two stunning cuvées from their Estate vineyard located high above Calistoga, both based around a core of Cabernet Sauvignon. The AMPERSAND contains a splash more Merlot in the blend, and tends to be the more expressive early on. They have an almost almost obsessive focus in the vineyard and winery, with each small lot managed individually, ensuring gentle extraction and barrel fermentation for extremely high-quality, refined tannins. They are one of the only wineries to ferment solely in 225L French oak barrels, using a labour-intensive method of placing each one on rollers to rotate it and gently mix the grapes with the fermenting juice. This process is customised for each individual lot and means it takes 3 to 4 barrels during fermentation to fill just one barrel for the aging of the wine.
