2023 Arkenstone, Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Howell Mountain 6x75cl

*Equal to the Estate Red, the Estate Sauvignon Blanc is done in the Bordeaux style of winemaking, including a small... percentage of Sémillon in the final blend. As with many Bordeaux Châteaux, Arkenstone utilises large concrete eggs for the vinification as well as new and once-used French oak.
The free-run Sauvignon Blanc is fermented and aged in oak and concrete vessels for roughly a year sur-lie and without racking or battonage. The Semillon is fermented and aged sur-lie for the same time but in all-new French oak. Once blended, the Estate Blanc is then aged in bottle for 18 months before release. The Wine Balance, structure, and texture are at the core of the Estate Blanc. This foundation makes it quite versatile at the dinner table. From raw seafood to hearty pork dishes, the combination of rich fruit and bright acidity makes it a perfect match.
Though easy to enjoy, the Estate Blanc is more intellectual than it is quaffable. Whereas most Sauvignon Blanc blends are meant to be enjoyed for the prelude to an evening, Arkenstone’s has the integrity to last from amuse-bouche to the final dessert of a lengthy meal.
Howell Mountain is composed primarily of volcanic soils. At Arkenstone, the vines are planted in red Aiken Loam and White Tufa. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are planted in the Tufa, comprised of compacted volcanic ash, and are 100% organically grown.

*There are few names in the world of fine wine as revered, or as evocative, as Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. Widely regarded as one... of the most prestigious vineyard sites in the world, it represents the pinnacle of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: a 'First Growth' of the New World.
This hallowed ground has yielded some of the most iconic wines in Napa’s history, entrusted only to a select handful of elite winemakers. Among them, Chris Tynan of Cliff Lede Vineyards stands out, consistently crafting wines of extraordinary depth, elegance, and critical acclaim.
In the cool darkness of night, grapes were hand-picked into small twenty-five-pound bins to minimise crushing. By early morning, the grapes were subjected to rigorous selection by our three-tiered sorting process, which includes an innovative optical sorter and a slow, individual berry hand sort. Whole berries were gently delivered by gravity to tank by a unique crane system, which kept the berries intact.
Cold soaks lasted from five to eight days, and fermentations were managed through a combination of pump-overs and délestage. Extended maceration of up to six weeks ensured exceptional extraction and fine-tuning of tannin profiles.
This wine underwent twenty-one months of élevage in French oak barrels, 81% of which were new.

Having averaged a breath-taking 99 points with Dunnuck and The Wine Advocate since head winemaker Christopher Tynan joined in 2012, it more than deserves this comparison.
Poetry draws its uniqueness from shallow, volcanic soils atop fractured shale. Due to the stressful nature of the site, planted with high vine density and farmed to very low yields, the vines develop slowly and produce small flavourful berries. The vineyard is planted to legendary, proprietary heritage selections of Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the cool darkness of night, grapes were hand-picked into twenty-five-pound (11.3kg) bins to minimise crushing. By early morning, the grapes were subjected to rigorous selection through a three-tiered sorting process, including an innovative optical sorter and a slow, individual berry hand sort.
Whole berries were then gently delivered by gravity to tank using a unique crane system, helping to keep the berries intact. Cold soaks lasted from five to eight days, while fermentations were managed through a combination of pump-overs and délestage. Extended maceration of up to four weeks ensured exceptional extraction and allowed for fine-tuning of tannin profiles.
Following twenty-one months of élevage in French oak barrels, 83% of which were new, the final blend was selected from the finest lots of the Poetry Vineyard.

Oakville is imposing and impressive with its broad-shouldered stature, while Stags Leap is a timeless beauty with classic proportions. This wine is proof that 1+1 can equal 3.
The wine perfectly captures both, the vintage and the synergy between the two sites. Rose hip, black cherry, and sweet savoury aromas point to the natural richness of the year in its amped up expression.
On the palate, chiselled cassis, raspberry and violet flavours pulse with energy, onto a layered graphitic infused bed of fine tannin. Even with all of its aromatic and flavour explosiveness, there is a level of translucence and energy that elevate the wine.

*VASO is to Dana Estates what The Mascot is to Harlan Estate, BOND and... Promontory. Dana Estates' vineyards are ranked as “Some of the best sites in Napa Valley” by Robert Parker, and VASO is built around the younger vines and hand-picked barrels that really show-off the incredible range of flavours and aromatics at winemaker Chris Cooney’s disposal. Like the single-vineyard Cabs, only the precious free-run juice is used and there is as little intervention as possible by the team, allowing the terroir to shine through.
The core of the VASO 2019 is from the Estate's Hershey Vineyard, just a stone's throw from Abreu's Las Posadas on Howell Mountain, complemented by fruit from their regal Lotus Vineyard – “Their First Growth terroir” (RP) – and historic Helms Vineyard which surrounds the winery in western Rutherford.
The VASO is released with the optimum bottle age so it’s absolutely gorgeous to pop open straight away, while holding plenty of cellaring potential. We cannot recommend this showstopper of a Napa Cab highly enough.

*Dripping with class and pedigree, the Collina is a beautiful representation of the Dalla Valle... Estate. While it was once a chance to express younger vines, it has developed into something far more than the sum of its parts with its own dedicated vineyard blocks.
It truly is a great introduction to the legendary Maya, sharing the same predominance of Cabernet Franc.
Dalla Valle's wines are famed for their longevity, which makes the Collina a chance to experience the vintage earlier on with its more accessible style. As Antonio Galloni says, it offers "Tremendous value in the world of high-end Napa Valley wines."

ONDA is a wine made in the Bordeaux tradition, blending both varietals and vineyards together to create a... synergy from our estate sites.
The team at DANA has been making this wine since 2005, experimenting by blending fruit from Helms, Hershey, Lotus and the fourth estate vineyard, Crystal Springs. A bit softer than the single vineyard wines, ONDA is characterized by wonderful fruit purity, elegance and precision. It drinks beautifully upon release but will age gracefully for 10-15 years with appropriate storage.
The 2016 vintage allowed head winemaker, Chris Cooney to reflect upon crafting the DANA wines and the full tenure of the winery. In their combined efforts, Philippe Melka and Chris further concentrated on vineyard expression and refined farming practices. The anticipation of the vintage allowed for proper planning and execution of an early harvest of phenomenal quality.
Dana's philosophy of minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery has resulted in a slow progression to dry farming. This forces the vines to look deeper for water, but also for nutrients and minerals. The results are balanced vines that produce small intensely flavoured berries with thick darkly coloured skins.
The 2016 season started with the soil full of water giving the vines a respite from 3 years of drought. The season started with a warm April and May which promoted rapid shoot growth with no water limitations. This established healthy canopies early in the season. A little extra work was done to keep dappled light in the fruit zone open which is critical for tannin development.
Crystal Springs forms the core of the 2016 ONDA blend (68% Crystal Springs Vineyard, 18% Hershey Vineyard, 11% Lotus Vineyard, 3% Helms Vineyard). Harvest at Crystal started on September 15th with the rockier soils on the south side of the vineyard. The team finished with 8 days later with the slightly cooler, heavier soils. About a week later the Merlot at Hershey was ready. A few days after, at the end of September they picked the north corner of Lotus Cabernet Sauvignon and the Petit Verdot. The following day on October 1st we picked a portion of Helms. The last picks of Hershey Cabernet Sauvignon occurred on October 12th.
The Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented in equal portions of oak and concrete tanks. The Merlot was fermented in stainless steel and the Petite Verdot in 225L French oak barrels. The wines were pressed directly to barrels, and malolactic was native.

In 1979, Larry planted the legendary Hyde Vineyard in Los Carneros, Napa's coolest-climate, and quickly built his reputation as one of the finest growers in California. A Chardonnay with 'Hyde Vineyard' on the label is of an assured 'Grand Cru' level, yet the story gets even more compelling.
In 2005, Larry took the leap from grower to winemaker and planted his family's new Estate Vineyard, described by Mark Aubert as “Where Burgundy meets California” – a brilliant summation of the Larry Hyde 'Hyde Vineyard Estate' Chardonnay produced from this remarkable site.
