There is no doubt at all: this is a name that will soon be spoken of alongside the Napa's Elite wineries.

So, what makes Seven Apart stand out from the crowd? The first factor is the supreme quality of the two Estate Vineyards on Atlas Peak and in Soda Canyon which are, serendipitously, seven miles apart.

Having such great fruit is no use without a great team, and Proprietor Don Dady made it his priority to assemble the best. The inaugural winemaker from 2018 was Andy Erickson - the one person Don wanted on board more than anyone else. Having put the Estate firmly on the map, in April 2023 Andy hand-picked his protégé to continue the growth for the long-term: Morgan Maureze.

As a young vintner, Morgan spent nine years as Andy's right-hand man, working with him at OVID, Screaming Eagle, and Dalla Valle Vineyards. Most importantly, they worked together on the very Seven Apart 2021s!

Born in France, Morgan’s father is a 5th generation winemaker, and his mother 3rd generation, which is why he jokes that his childhood wasn't just an experience: it was an education. In 1985, his father was appointed General Manager of Dominus Estate in Napa, where Morgan worked in the vineyard during summer holidays in his teens.

He went on to achieve his Diploma in Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, before heading to the University of Bordeaux to expand his experience. While there, he worked at Château Haut-Brion and Château Petrus, and then moved further east to complete his Masters Thesis at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Not too shabby for a twenty-something!

The Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon is based around a core of fruit from the Base Camp Vineyard in Soda Canyon, sprinkled with hand-picked barrels from Stags Ridge Vineyard on Atlas Peak. The resulting wine in 2021 is a gorgeous expression that, for us, shows a new side to Napa that we can't wait to bring to the UK's most discerning cellars.

We'll be picking them up later this Summer, so make sure your name is on a case as this is the start of something truly special.

2021 Seven Apart, Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1x75cl

WI98+
Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot Vintage production: 1,500 cases There is no doubt at all: Seven Apart is a name that will soon be spoken of alongside the Napa's... Elite wineries. The Expedition Cabernet Sauvignon is based around a core of fruit from the Estate's Base Camp Vineyard, sprinkled with hand-picked barrels from Estate's Stags Ridge Vineyard. The resulting wine in 2021 is a gorgeous expression that, for us, shows a new side to Napa that we can't wait to bring to the UK's most discerning cellars. Stags Ridge Vineyard sits above the fog line at an elevation of 450 metres on Atlas Peak's rocky, red volcanic soils. The small berries on these 25 year old vines produce wines rich in colour, tannin, and concentration. Base Camp Vineyard, planted between 1994 and 1998, surrounds the winery at the base of Atlas Peak in Soda Canyon, nestled alongside the famous Silverado Trail. The soils here consists of sand, clay, and gravel, giving the wines a rich structure and opulence. Such great fruit demands a great winemaker, and that person is Morgan Maureze. Having spend his formative years working at Dominus Estate, where his father was appointed general manager in 1985, Morgan graduated from UC Davis and the University of Bordeaux. He spent time working at Châteaux Haut-Brion and Petrus, before completing his Thesis at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti! He was inexorably drawn back to California, where he was hand-picked by legendary winemaker Andy Erickson, becoming his right-hand man at Estates including Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle Vineyards. Andy was Seven Apart's inaugural winemaker in 2018, before championing Morgan as his successor in 2023 - most importantly, they had already worked together on the 2021s, so Morgan was the perfect choice.
