2018 Dragonette, Duvarita Vineyard Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County 1x75cl

JD94
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage Production: 145 cases The Duvarita Vineyard is in the far west of the region, sitting literally metres outside of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA boundary, and it is one of... the most sought after vineyards. The steep slopes sit on a combination of ancient sand dunes and sandstone, producing wines of characteristic depth and intensity. Dragonette's Chardonnay comes from the highest blocks, more influenced by the cooling Pacific fog and full of stone fruit and a crisp minerality, and we love the extra dimension on the palate that comes from lees contact. For some summer-dining inspiration, the regional seafood specialties are the famous local halibut and sea bass, either (or both!) of which are perfect with a glass of Duvarita Chardonnay.

2021 Dragonette, Rita’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills 1x75cl

JD95VM97
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage Production: 330 cases One of the producers at the forefront of Sta. Rita's Hills' success is Dragonette Cellars. Winemaker Brandon Sparks-Gills, and brothers Steve and... John Dragonette, select the region's elite vineyards to make Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays of utter refinement and distinction. Rita’s Crown vineyard is located at one of the highest points in the Sta. Rita Hills, adjacent to such famous sites as Mt Carmel and Sea Smoke. The soils are a mix of sandy and clay loams with a good amount of diatomaceous earth. Dragonette's Chardonnay comes from two parcels: block 16, (clone 76) lies at 800-950 feet on a steep, west-southwest facing hillside above the monastery, and block 12 (clone 95), a steep south facing hillside just below and to the west. These higher elevation blocks are exposed to fog and clouds most mornings and high winds most afternoons, cooling the vineyard. The climate and the low vigour soils produce a small canopy, small yields and a long, slow growing season. The wines here typically show beautiful, ripe tropical fruit flavours, balanced by remarkable acidity and strong notes of chalky minerals.

2021 Dragonette, Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD94JS96RP94VM96
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir Vintage production: 350 cases Historic Sanford & Benedict is the original Pinot Noir vineyard (est. 1971) in the Santa Ynez Valley (Sta. Rita Hills was not established until... 2001), and it has been the inspiration for winemakers for ever since. Originally planted to a selection of apparently secret “heritage” clones (subsequently expanded and replanted over the years), this magical site simply buzzes with cosmic energy. Dragonette purchases fruit here from two distinct blocks of older vines (1999) and oldest vines (1972), buying by the acre so they may employ specialized organic farming practices. These stately vines stand tall on their enormous trunks, while still producing a solid crop of beautifully concentrated grapes. The resulting wines display sappy red and black cherry fruits with old-vine style and grace.

2021 Dragonette, Black Label Chardonnay, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD97VM95+
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: 150 cases This small production, reserve level wine is a blend of the team's favourite barrels, each selected for its outstanding depth, concentration,... complexity, and engaging personality. THE VINEYARDS Bentrock: Dramatic, north facing block overlooking the Santa Ynez River to the south and Radian to the West. Rocky, windy site gives wines of intense power and length, interjected with complex mineral notes and structure. Rita’s Crown: Steep, South-Southwest facing blocks regularly visited by high winds and fog. Low vigor soils of sandy and clay loams with diatomaceous earth produce grapes with tropical fruits, chalky minerals, and great natural acidity. Radian: Dramatic, west facing block high above the valley floor stares directly at the mighty, cold, windy Pacific. Very low yields and thick skins combine to make powerful wines, with intense minerals and high acidity. The individual blocks were picked in separate passes with field sorting. Within hours, the grapes were gently pressed, the juice settled, then put down to barrels for primary fermentation, which took place with native yeasts. The wine sees native malolactic fermentation in barrel and aging on the lees (without stirring) in French oak (67% new) for 18 months, before blending and bottling.

2018 Dragonette, MJM Syrah, Sta. Rita Hills 1x75cl

JD97+
Blend: 95% Syrah, 4% Grenache and 1% Viognier Vintage Production: 340 cases MJM is Dragonette's signature, Syrah-based blend, named in honor of the team's wives and coconspirators in this venture,... Mitchi, Jen and Michelle. Syrah from cooler sites in Santa Barbara makes wines of extraordinary depth, aromatic complexity, elegance and longevity, on par with those from the great growing regions of the world. The John Sebastiano Vineyard (Sta. Rita Hills) has steep hillsides with sandy loam soils. Buffeted daily by high winds and steeped in fog, this cool site produces wines with remarkable aromatics and flavours of spices, dark fruits, meat and earth. Stolpman in (Ballard Canyon) boasts rolling hills of clay loam, underpinned with limestone. Extreme deficit farming and older vines (some 20+ years) produce low yields of spectacularly dark, intense red fruits and meaty notes. A portion of the fruit comes from the exclusive, steeply pitched high-density blocks which sit on thick bands of limestone. Larner (Ballard Canyon) has thin sandy soils on rolling hills. 20-year-old vines yield dark, rich, meaty Syrah fruit with blueberry fruits and game. The fruit from nearby Kimsey (Ballard Canyon) is dark with rich flavors of blueberries and blackberries seasoned with spices.
