2021 Andremily, Mourvèdre, California 1x75cl

JD96-98RP100WI97-99
Blend: 88% Mourvèdre, 12% Syrah Vintage production: 500 cases There is nothing in the world that can compare with the Andremily Mourvèdre. As Perrotti-Brown says: “I think it is safe to say... that with the possible exception of Beaucastel’s Hommage a Jacques Perrin, there is no one in the world producing greater Mourvedre than Jim.” A perfect 100pts from The Wine Advocate for the 2021 adds further strength to this, and Jim’s thoughts are too good not to share: “A filthy and delicious concoction, this amazingly hedonistic wine aims to please offering heaps of blue fruit, strawberry garrigue, and crushed rocks with hints of tar, as well as plenty of that sexy Mourvedre funk.” The vineyard sources are Alta Mesa (Santa Barbara County), G2 (Paso Robles), Larner (Ballard Canyon), and Slide Hill - Andremily's new Estate Vineyard in Edna Valley.

2019 Argot, Indigo Syrah, Sonoma Mountain 1x75cl

JD97
Blend: 100% Syrah Vintage production: 120 cases Indigo is a selection from Justin's favourite Syrah terroir, with an emphasis on the Alban 1 clone, given an extended elevage in new, French oak... barriques for maximum impact and richness. The vineyard is situated at 335m of elevation on a north-facing, gently-rolling hillside on the foothills of Sonoma Mountain. It is composed of a geological upheaval of ashy, moondust-like soils, littered with ancient seabed. Sonoma Mountain’s ridgetops — demarcating the cool Sonoma Coast AVA, from the more moderate Sonoma Valley AVA — delivers an utterly unique expression of Syrah, distinct from that grown elsewhere in Sonoma County. The 2019 spent 22 months French oak hogshead barrels (90% new).

2017 Linne Calodo, Sticks and Stones, Paso Robles 1x75cl

JD96
Blend: 71% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre Vintage production: 900 cases In the words of winemaker, Matt Trevisan: “Sticks and Stones is our ballad to Grenache, and to our mindset as a blending... house. It’s the idea of taking the bright flavors and luscious acidity of our best Grenache barrels, then lengthening them out with complements of Syrah and Mourvèdre. It blurs the dividing line between a varietal wine and a showcase blend—essentially a Grenache done the Linne Calodo way."

2020 Fingers Crossed, Assortment Case 6x75cl

JD97/98/97WI97/96/98
Vintage production: 1,720 Assortment cases 'Head Held High' Case contains: 2x75cl White 2020, 2x75cl Syrah 2020, 2x75cl Grenache 2020 Like father, like son: Nikolas Krankl has stepped firmly out of... the imperious shadow of his father, the legendary Manfred Krankl of Sine Qua Non fame, to quickly become “Unquestionably one of the up and coming superstars of California” (JD) with his Fingers Crossed wines.   They are world-class wines that stand alone for their elegance, complexity, and vitality, and the Assortment Cases have become one of the hottest tickets in California!   In 2020, Nik was able to take over his father’s blocks as the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard since Sine Qua Non recently became 100% Estate grown. This makes all three new releases the most exciting to date, especially the White. The Fingers Crossed Chardonnay comes from Block-W which was planted in 1973, making it the vineyard’s oldest. It was these very same vines that went into the legendary Sine Qua Non Pearl Clutcher 2012! Nik also uses fruit from one of California’s other great terroirs, the Sandford & Benedict Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills, for all three cuvées.   Presented as two bottles of each wine in a stunning wooden box, the Fingers Crossed ‘Head Held High’ Assortment Case 2020 is a cellar essential and as collectible as it gets.

2019 Peake Ranch, Bellis Noir, Sta. Rita Hills 12x75cl

JD96
Blend: 75% Syrah, 16% Grenache, 9% Pinot Noir Vintage Production: 557 cases If there's one wine that sums up why California is such a hotbed of innovation and excitement, it's the Peake Ranch Bellis... Noir 2019. It's a blend like no-other: with a dominance of Syrah and addition of Grenache it is a classic Central Coast recipe, but what makes it unique and utterly divine is a splash of Pinot Noir, all from the Estate Vineyards! Peake Ranch's wines are super hot-tickets, and the two Estate Vineyards in Sta. Rita Hills are highly prized by the region's top winemakers. The Peake Ranch Vineyard surrounds the winery in the far southeast of the AVA, counting Sine Qua Non's Eleven Confessions Vineyard as a neighbour. This historic site rises up from the valley floor into Santa Rosa Hills, a is home to some of the best Pinot Noir on the West Coast. John Sebastiano Vineyard has the perfect mix of cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean and Californian sunshine for producing amazing Syrah and Grenache. With the likes of Jim Binns (Andremily), Paul Lato (Paul Lato Wines), and Nik Krankl (Finger's Crossed) lining up for some fruit, it deserves it's 'Grand Cru' status. The mix of intense, aromatic Syrah with energetic, textured Grenache and Pinot may sound outrageous, but if the recipe works why deny it?!

Blend: 51% Syrah, 17% Mourvèdre, 14% Grenache, 7% Tempranillo, 6% Graciano, 3% Carignan, 2% Zinfandel Vintage production: 1,729 cases The remarkable Estate Blend 2019 is a masterful blend of... Rhône-varietals taking fruit from Paderewski and York Mountain, with the addition of the Estate's third vineyard, Catapult, which was planted in 2008. It's winemaker Jordan Fiorentini's calling-card cuvée which perfectly expresses the Estate's style and exceptional quality. Equal part rich and decadent, refined and coiled, it has to be one the biggest overachievers out there with three 97 point scores! It's drinking beautifully at release, although may benefit from a year or two before entering a VERY long drinking window up to 2040. Now that's a seriously good wine that will brush aside many at twice the price.
