2021 Lail Vineyards, Georgia Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley 6x75cl

RP96VM92/100WI97
Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc Vintage production: 416 cases Following its inaugural 2002 vintage release, Robin Lail's Georgia single-handedly revolutionised Sauvignon Blanc in California. Georgia... was inspired by her winemaker Philippe Melka’s time working at Château Haut Brion, where he fell in love with Haut Brion Blanc. They were among the first to use the same winemaking approach in Napa to produce a Sauvignon Blanc of the same exceptional quality and ageworthy style, as good as any other in the world. When Robert Parker famously described the Georgia as "California's most complex and multi-dimensional Sauvignon Blanc" Robin and Philippe's instincts were proved right. This is a wine characterised by energy, richness and remarkable depth, always differentiated by the nuances of each vintage.

WI96
Blend: 100% Chardonnay Vintage production: n/a Argot winemaker and founder Justin Harmon is one of THE names to follow in Northern California, and this latest release shows just why. Rich, lifted... aromatics, so much purity, bags on tension, intensity minerality, laser-like precision... it is phenomenal. All Justin's wines are small-scale artisanal productions - for the La Rayon-Vert he uses fruit from the exceptional Steiner and Richard Dinner Vineyards on Sonoma Mountain. This is a terroir that brings impressive depth while retaining dazzling verve and acidity.

2016 Blankiet Estate, Paradise Hills Vineyard Proprietary Red, Napa Valley 6x75cl

VM98
Blend: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1.5% Petit Verdot Vintage production: 605 cases Blankiet Estate is nestled above Yountville on the western foothills of the Mayacamas... Mountains. ?The Paradise Hills Vineyard is carved on steep hillsides just above the famed Dominus Estate Napanook parcel that was originally planted in 1838 by Yountville’s founder, George C. Yount. With an ideal eastern exposure, the land is bathed with morning sun and benefits from natural shade in the hot afternoons, and cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay flow constantly across the land. It's located on three volcanic knolls where soil profiles vary from deeply fractured rocks and volcanic ash, to thick clay deposits, meaning each parcel is distinguished by a unique subsoil and microclimate. At just 6.5 hectares in size it's a remarkably small site, yet the incredible complexity of the terroir allows for three distinct wines, each of a singular style. This is an Estate at the top of its game. Combined with the very talented winemaker Graeme MacDonald and owner Claude Blankiet's attention to detail, is truly worthy of an exploration.
